Hi there,

Old versions of my web pages are still being indexed by Google. I have setup some 301 redirects to point these pages to the correct URLs but I just wanted to know why they are still there. The correct information is reflected in my sitemap submitted to Google Webmaster Tools

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I am seeing results in there that are about 3 weeks old. Admittedly my website is very new so Google may not crawl it very regularly.

3 weeks its not that much time. Previous year I optimized a site whose old page's were there in the SERP's for atleast 4 months. So, you have to wait. 301 redirect them and also fetch the new urls through google webmasters tool.

Don't worry about that. You can use Google Submit Url and Ping Url tool to get indexed faster.

Don't worry about that, when your new versions of pages indexed then the older one will be replaced with that. It will take time because your site is new for search engine. Don't go for any shortcut let it take its time to bring better results.

Make it sure 301 redirecting is working. You can also ping your new url post on social media websites. Disable all the old pages. Google may take some time to index new links. Thanks :-)

in that case still you need to wait because google automatically remove your old url.

I thought of suggesting 301 redirects to you. But, since you have done that already, check whether the old URL is linked from anywhere in your website. If yes, replace it with the new URL. That might work.

You shouldn`t worry about that really, the old pages are being stored in indexes for some time even after they are deleted. What you should do is make sure that you have no links to those pages on any valid pages of your website. Try checking the URLs in any tool that allows finding all internal links TO page, and make sure the outdated and non-existent pages and unlinked completely.
