exception to these article sites.

Free classifieds are not very effective although some
will make an exception for Craigslist especially
local ads.

Forum posting is effective if done properly.

Quora question and answer site gets a lot of traffic.

The usual social media sites such as Facebook, Linkedin,
Pinterset, Instagram, Snapchat etc get a lot of traffic for
most niches.

There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube on traffic generation,
just check that the video is not out dated as the rules on
these sites change regularly.

There are lots of ways... However, I get free website traffic through Pinterest, YouTube, and Quora... But, I think all traffic sources work. People start trusting you when they see you've experience and you've spent some time on that 'specific' platform. In other words, "Bandwagon Effect" matters a lot. If you're popular, and if you're getting lots of likes and upvotes on your comments or posts, people will listen to you and buy your products/services.

I like posting in forums, commenting in blogs after READING the post that are in my niche, I still submit to some directories.

I'm experimenting with that as we speak. I'm going to go where my target audience would be at. Which would be youtube. I tried posting comments and links on videos but realized the linked comments don't even get approved. I'm going to head over to reddit next, then instagram

If you are technical with development use Basic On-page SEO. and then leave your site link in social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Pinterest etc.

Nice question. It is bad headache who have website but don't get a huge visitors? There are turns of free method to get visitors. I have a site . At first you should have quality content to attract visitors. Also good looking site. After that you can use off page seo method. I usually do social media method and spread my site. Also do guest blogging but it's hard to get quality back link from them. You can do social bookmarking although it's old method but efficiencies. You should use raddit or pinterest to get huge traffic. Make niche related video and promote them diffrent video sharing site. It's my opinion. Besides that a lot of method available.

I think article marketing does not work so much! You may not get expected results. And, forum marketing can be effective if you are going to target niche specific forums!

Apart from making your way, I also create facebook fanpage, twitter, linkedin, ... (social network). So not only made a name on its own website, but also on the track plays on those pages. From there you will also have more stable traffic volume.

All the above mentioned techniques are important & freely help in traffic generation.
Addition to them social media sites can be very helpful as you may be aware people are very much active on them.
While performing above techniques make sure your content is technically & grammatically correct, unique & updated.
