What is "Not Set" and "Not Provided" in Google Analytics?

    "Not Set" is traffic that really is a referral. It may come from Google properties like images or maps, links from other websites or email. They arrived to your site without entering a keyword phrase.

    "Not Provided" started appearing in Analytics back in 2011, when Google started encrypting results from SSL searches made through any of the Google properties when people were signed into their Google accounts or from the encrypted Firefox search bar. Since then, Google has made all searches done through their search engine encrypted, essentially hiding the results of the search terms used. You'll find very little information about search phrases from the Analytics keyword report these days.
