Best way to assess keyword difficulty?

What's your favorite way of determining how difficult it is to rank for a given keyword?

I know that SEMrush and MOZ both have scores for measuring keyword difficulty. But I found that they both seem to score the same keyword phrase very different.

Curious to hear what else is out there?

Obviously general term keywords are really competitive for its global searches but for specific location targeting it will take right information and interesting content to reach the right audience.

You could try LogtailPro. That has been rated well over the years.

Honestly, there is no tool that does a good job of measuring keyword difficulty. They are all horrible at it.

Moz tries to account for link quality, but Moz's link database is horribly lacking. Most of the tools use completely worthless information like how many results show up in the SERP and the age of the domains.

None of them take into account site and internal link structure.

You can use a tool if you are impatient and looking for a quick solution. Just understand that you are always going to have inaccurate results.

I`m using RankTracker for that. The metrics taken into account are quite similar (it also checks the optimization of pages for keywords), but I find it useful to get the overall picture (no tool will analyze that accurately anyway). I`m mostly using it to gather some basic stats and to see truly local competitors, as it allows checking keyword difficulty even for a specific neighborhood. I`d say these are not the results to draw conclusions from, but more of a groundwork.
