Ranking youtube video to build my list?

Hey everyone, I've never really messed around with making a youtube video, or trying to rank them. But I've decided I want to try to take the route of creating an enticing video, that can help somebody solve a problem. The whole purpose is to try to get them to join my list by wanting my freebie that i'm going to give away in the description. The freebie is going to be relative on what the video is going to be about. I figured it would be a good way to get free traffic so I can continuously build my list for free. Does anybody have any advice they can give me about trying to rank videos? Or should I possibly go to a freelancer to do my youtube SEO for me?
