Strange Indexing Problem With Attachment ID

Hi Warriors,
We've literally just got the website back up on Google after receiving a Manual Penalty for Sneaky Mobile Redirects that came from our advertising partner. Whilst speaking on the Webmaster forums regarding the recovery period a user pointed out a problem we haven't seen before.
Lots of content is being indexed on Google under URL/?attachment_id=dgrjiwoijwxje which then directs to pages that aren't the actual article.

Literally 0 idea what's causing this, where it's come from or how to fix it. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
