Are we confusing Google with our internal linking?

Hi all,

We have interlinked on of our pages more than our homepage to rank for primary "keyword". Because this page has "keyword" in it's slug and we thought internal linking and keyword in URL combine and rank for that "keyword"; but it didn't workout. Now Google is not showing this page nor homepage for that keyword, but login page. So I wonder whether we have confused Google to choose between internal linked page and homepage, so Google chosen another page. And generally do we need to internally link homepage more than anyother page?

Thanks

Just build links from external quality sources to the page which you want to get ranked.

You should interlink properly then it will work out I mean one-to-one (ex: home to xyz page and again xyz to home page)

Sometimes Google takes time to consider the target page for specific keywords, so try to build external high quality links that could be indexable easing.

You've obviously messed up your internal links and probably have no authority flowing into the page you want ranked.

Authority has to originate from somewhere so you have to have followed backlinks from other domains to make those internal links have their own authority.

Internal linking is a key SEO tactic for publishers. It helps to improve your ranking for certain keywords. For example, if we want a page to rank for 'search marketing statistics' and we Without correct interlinking, this could confuse Google, especially if there are no external links pointing to those pages.

Internally linking is advanced SEO tactics. It doesn't seem that advanced. It might seem kind of boring.
Of course, site architecture and structuring can get even more complex. But we are not confusing to Google.
Google's crawler follows link paths throughout the internet to find and index websites. If your website has strong internal linking, the Google crawler has an easier time finding new content that you publish and link to.
Google regularly crawls the web for fresh content. If your content is woven together with multiple internal links, crawling will happen a lot faster.

Google isn't just looking at an A HREF tag. They are also looking at the anchor text that is part of that link.
