Just wondered if anyone has any good proxy services to recommend (free/paid) I noticed there are quite alot of free web based service providers, but how can you be sure they are doing the job?

You can't. And some of them are really slow and open to hackers. I had my gmail a/c hacked whilst using Tor - the open source proxy server. The villains got into my Adwords a/c and set up a $2k daily spend campaign. Ran up $500 or something before both Google and I spotted it. Google were going to take forever to refund the cash so I opted to exchange the stolen amount for click credit.

I've since found a bulletproof paid Proxy Server using the same technology as the U.S. Defence forces. PM me if interested 'cause I'd quite like the affiliate commission.

      WOW! Thats quite a story

Yeah PM me the details, I'll check it out.

I used a free one earlier, think it was proxlicious, which claims the same "U.S Defence" technology stuff.

No such thing as bullet proof proxy, they are not private, and you have no idea
      who or what runs them.

Anyone thinking of using such things is really asking for trouble. Why this
still seems to be an option is way beyond me.

You are indeed correct. Proxies are anything but private, and you don't
have a clue as to what's being done. Your ISP is set up to protect you,
or at least they try. Why open yourself up to the wolves at hand?

What on earth do you expect to accomplish in 2012 using a proxy?

I just don't get you people. This whole thread is laughable garbage.

I keep repeating myself: Any wonder why there are so many fail threads
      here?

Recently a hacker at a Black Hat Security Conference in Washington demonstrated how he got past SSL (Secure Sockets Layer used for credit card transactions etc) on Tor and got into people's accounts.
He got 254 passwords from Tor users in 24 hours.
To prove his point, he ran SSLstrip on a server hosting a Tor anonymous browsing network. During a 24-hour period, he harvested 254 passwords from users visiting sites including Yahoo, Gmail, Ticketmaster, PayPal, and LinkedIn. The users were fooled even though SSLstrip wasn't using the proxy feature that tricks them into believing they were at a secure site. Sadly, the Tor users entered passwords even though the addresses in their address bars didn't display the crucial "https."

I don't use proxies since they slow down my Internet Connection. But if you want a good proxy, as James said, use Packetflip.

What do you mean they have blocked the proxies? Your school has blocked the proxy site's address's?

Wherever you go to a proxy website on the school internet you get a message that says something like:

            Proxy Avoidance
This is a proxy related website and it falls under the Jefferson Parish blacklisted sites category.

Am I rite in SAYING (defenitely not doing!) that if you clicked on your own adsense ads while using a proxy, google would not know any different???

I ask just to get an idea of how powerful, and truely invisible they make you.

This is by far the best proxi service I have used:

WorldProxy202 - Proxies from around the world at your fingertips.

Its actually really awesome, you know it works because (for example) with CPA offers that are only in the states, it works well, also I use for craigslist posting..

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers

  • If you have to use a proxy to do what your are doing... then you really have to question what you are doing.

Not necessarily so. There are many legitimate uses of proxies.
Sometimes I use proxies to see how others view/see my site.

Your website may be cached in your browser and you don't realize
it until you use a proxy to look at the site. And that's just one
      example.

When I worked for a company that was on the "dark side of the force" of internet marketing we used Privacy View out of FLA. Privacy View Proxy, the program auto rotates from one of their private servers to another every 30 minutes.

Worked great, nice folks to work with and never had any "leakage" like our old proxy service did. And trust me, the guy I worked for had his business IP address banned all around the web, so if our proxy failed we knew about instantly.

proxies are a good investment, if you go long term use private/dedicated proxies. if you want to spend all day entering new proxies in your browser settings it will work against you. I tried many things including vpn and vpn slowed my system to a halt. I recently tried rotateip and the software alone is worth the monthly proxies fee because it makes managing my ip address automatic. I will never use proxies again without this powerful software in my personal arsenal. Good luck and go dedicated you will never look back.

Some sites detect anonymous proxies. I will use VPN instead. It's cheaper and some good VPN costs about $10 per month with unlimited IPs. However, if you intend to use proxies for article directory submission, the best and cheapest way is to switch off or unplug your DSL/ADSL modem for few minutes to change your IP address.

    bulletproof proxy )

if you want to hide your online identity and if you do not want that your ISP to know on what website are you browsing etc ... find a great VPN provider that they don't keep the VPNs logs, find a service like findnot.com that was closed by FBI a few years ago ...

There are lots of ways. My IP is blocked for v7n forum. So, I need to browse using free proxies. I pick a proxy from Free Proxy Lists. And change my browser proxy to manual and put the proxy there. You have to check whether the proxy is working for you or not. You need to change it for several time and once you can browse by one of that proxy, you can use it until you restart your computer.
