How do you know your rank?

I have been looking up domains/sites for sale and using Alexa and SimilarWeb and sometimes the rank listed is nothing like what is being reported in the sale. Sometimes the site has no rank at all and other times SimilarWeb will say its ranking in another country?

How do you determine a site/domain's rank? And should I even bother buying a dot.com domain that is ranking in another continent for use on a US site???

    Sorry but forget about Alexa.
Stick to search engines you want your site to rank for.
If you want to know your rank, do it manually. Yes, it is better that way.
How? Start with the keywords you used for optimizing your site.

You can use the Moz Chrome toolbar (Mozbar) to get the metrics of any website. It is easy and on the go.

Yes, you can buy a domain that is ranking in another continent, but you would have to put in the work to make it rank in the US. Either you do it yourself or you hire someone to do it. Is that a task that you would like to undertake?

If you are new to IM - why are you looking for site to buy instead of building sites or blogs of your own? That would be a safer and cheaper option and you would learn more doing that than by anything else you might do online.

Due to the current pandemic I will no longer be shaking hands or giving hugs. You may wave, bow to me or give me the finger...your choice.

Websites do not have ranks, web pages do. Figure out what keyword phrases you want to rank for and then look them up on Google to see where you rank. If you don't find it within the first two pages, stop looking and get back to work on trying to get each of those pages to rank better.

When websites for sale say they rank for any given phrase, look the phrase up and see where they really rank, assuming you are in the country where you will be trying to rank for that phrase. It doesn't take very long to look at two pages of search results for any given keyword phrase. Again, if they aren't AT LEAST within the first two pages for a phrase, who cares where they rank? Nobody is ever going to find them.

Really, you need to be on the first page but at least if you are on the second page for a search term, there is a decent chance of moving up in a decent time frame.

Thanks so much for the add-in suggestion... It will help me make decisions easier. I am definitely up for the task and learning as I go!

I am looking for sites because every domain name I have been trying is taken. Buying a site with its associated domain is how its going to go for me at this point. Lots of dot.coms for sale!

Moz is a very good tool. But the best tool is semrush. It will solve your all queries.

I think it is a confusing issue for you. It is really common. You will not get the same results all the time. Some tools show this one some tools show that one.
You can use different tools to find out the details of your site. Use SEMrush, Moz, SimilarWeb, Alexa, and more.
You will get an average idea about your website.
    Thanks.

    Hello Cillygurl,
To know your website rank, simply visit small seo tools software & choose Alexa rank checker. When you select Alexa rank checker, simply put your website URL address & you will get your website rank results on SERP.
