Debugging a MAJOR overnight drop in Google rank

Hi. I'm new to SEO, but have been trying hard to improve my rank for a few search terms for my site: engraversguild.co.uk

"Engraved Cufflinks" and "Personalised Cufflinks" are my two main terms, and I've managed to get to page 2 for both.

However, for "Personalised Cufflinks" I seem to have these attacks where I drop to page 12, and it takes me MONTHS to recover. This happened again last night. I woke up this morning, looking on page 2, and didn't find my result till page 12.

I have no manual actions against me on my Search Console. I haven't changed anything on my site either.

Does anyone know why this could be happening?

Any replies would be so gratefully received.

    Are you checking your ranks yourself or using a rank tracker?

      I'm generally just check the ranks myself.

      But I verify them every so often on serps.com. I found last time that it took a few days for it to reflect my decreased google rank, and was assuming the same this time.

    It is tough to say for sure without seeing the site, but that sounds like the kind of bouncing that is caused from a dynamic home page where the content is changing with every new post that is published.

    If you are never posting new content, then obviously that is not the issue.

    Again, just a guess.

      I don't actually change anything on the homepage at all - or the category page for my cufflinks. I just add new blog content every so often.

      I guess I'll just try and ride it out again. It's just unfortunate how it is a major issue on the long term viability of my business, as I desperately need to ween myself off PPC for these search terms.

      If you do think of anything else, please do let me know and I'll be extremely grateful.

    Well Its normal google dance. What kind of links are you building, Try sending social signals they used to work good for me to stop the dancing.

        Yeah, it happens. I watch serp all the time, 100+ ranking change back and forth a few days until it settles.

      There is nothing normal about a ranking jumping up and down. People use the term "Google dance" to explain things they cannot figure out. That's all.

      As for social signals... 1) social signals have nothing to do with rankings and 2) who the hell is really sharing content about cufflinks?

    Set up 2-3 YouTube (YT) Videos that have a link in the description leading to your page.

    Solve one problem per video and tell them to click the link for XYZ reason (whatever your main selling point is).

    Google owns YT. The links help a little in ranking, but, the traffic will bring you stability in ranking, natural backlinks and social signals as well.
