Pages or Posts in WordPress for SEO?

I have a service company. Let's say it is an auto repair shop.

Obviously I am not going to have a lot of updates (blog posts) because, let's face it, not a lot changes day to day.

But I want to rank high for auto repair in my town, services for a particular brand, etc.

So lets say my business is in Richmond, VA and I offer oil changes, tire rotations, frame realignment, windshield replacement and air conditioner repair.

Am I better off (SEO-wise) to make PAGES for all these services or have a categories with locations and services as the headings and the specific posts under them?

    If the information on (for example) oil changes is not going to change over time then my suggestion would be to make pages. A page for each of your primary services.

    The page titles will then appear in your menu, putting them right in front of your visitors.

    Make your blog start on a static page, and create a 'Home' page to set as your starting page. The blog posts will then appear under a tab called 'blog' in your menu, so the whole lot will look like a traditional website with a fully integrated blog.

    You could use blog posts to introduce special offers, or helpful (educational) articles on why you should change your oil, etc, etc, and link from the posts to the relevant pages.

    Writing articles like these on a regular basis will help to build up momentum and create a presence online - and you only need to do one or two a week.

      How about neither?

      If you want to rank high for your service locally, the way to
      go is with a dot com that has a "specials" page that is
      updated, along with news and info.

      You can still have a blog if you wish, but connect it with the
      dot com. Go regular dot com first.

      What is the reason you are even thinking about a blog instead of
      a very high profile dot com first? (A dot com that is blogless, that is)

        I've always favored Wordpress for all of my sites. Posts vs pages have never made a difference to me. If there are a lot of backlinks and the page is optimized then it will rank well regardless. Posts organize into categories easily and pages make for easy navigation menus, take advantage of that and dont over complicate this.

          The one thing to bear in mind is that the default RSS feed of WP does not include pages.

          So if your website is made up of pages and not post, then the RSS feed is gonna be empty

          Of course there is a way around this, simply use the

          "RSS Include Pages" plug.

          It works really well!
          I'm using it on all my blogs at the moment.

    there is nothing wrong with wordpress for what you want to do and wordpress doesn't always = blog. It's a CMS platform developed for blogging but has evolved way beyond that today.

    With that said, you should look around at different theme options something like this would work well for what you want to do after a graphics tune-up to fit your business.

    Also, you can't add tags to pages which means you may get less pages indexed in Google. However, if you're pages are quite specific and have a chance of ranking high then it may not be needed.

    As mentioned above, I would always go with posts over pages purely because of the RSS factor.

    By syndicating my content I have improved my traffic almost 10 fold, so RSS has the potential to be a gold mine.

      This is a classic set it and forget it type site. Go static and use icerocket for rss if you need rss. Nothing like having to keep up with WP security updates on a site you're not adding content too.

      To rank high locally, include some community info pages on your site as well as the services you sell and then get busy registering in all the business directories and putting a link to your site in there.

    Search Engines see Pages and Posts as "pages" to crawl. What your visitor sees depends on the structure of your site and the template you use.
