Build a website on an expiring domain?

Hi, I've been thinking about building a site on an expired domain name I bought recently.
The domain is over 2 years old, it currently only has 20 backlinks, no spam links according to opensiteexplorer, its indexed in Google for a few pages, it has domain authority of 13 and page authority of 22.
I've been building affiliate sites for some time but the time it takes for a new domain to rank takes a while and id like to skip the lag time.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
