Does long-tail query optimization affect short keywords too?

Hello everybody.

I have a question.

Let's say I am doing on-page SEO activities for this keyword: "cheap family lawyers in Portland".
Maybe I have done a good job and the intended page now ranks better for that keyword.

QUESTION: Is the same page going to rank better also for "family lawyers"?

It is not the my keyword, however it is part of it.

    Yes. It will get a bit of a bump too. How much is a bit depends on how competitive the short keyword is.

    For some, it will only mean that you pop of at #435 when Google shows 435 results. For other it will mean you end up #27.

    Yes, it helps in optimizing your website for short keywords also - not immediately but definitely - depending upon the keywords competition and number of quality links you have.

    yes, it can rank for different combinations if you are optimising your content focusing on this combinations such as ; Cheap family lawyers, family lawyers, lawyers in portland, family lawyers in Portland.
