Google already confirmed the increased length for the snippets in the search results now its up to 320 max characters in the description.

And this is also dependant on pixels. I came across this update via Search Engine Journal last week and I have already updated my meta description.

What you think about it? How you believe it can impact SEO ? Some say it can decrease clicks, as all info will be in description already. Some say it will boost SEO positions so you may get more clicks.

There is no direct impact from meta descriptions on SEO. You can stuff all the keywords you want in them and it will not help you rank better at all.

That said, IF (a big "if") Google chooses to use you meta description and it is better at compelling people to click, it could have an effect on SEO because the higher click-through rate may signal that your listing is more relevant than ones not getting clicked on as much - especially if people do not pogo-stick back to the search results after only a few seconds on the page.

Making your meta descriptions longer will not necessarily help your click-through rate, either. It's only going to help if those extra characters help you convince people to click more so than the shorter meta description did.

Oh, and as far as people not clicking on your page because the meta description told them all they really need to know, you must have a pretty lame page if a 300 character meta description tells people all they need to know.

I have published a very informational and detailed post on google meta description update. I'll just summarize the whole post where on how it could affect and where are we heading with these updates.

Take a loot at the few recent changes in SERP's, have you noticed the featured snippets? or direct answers by google?

Have you done a research or notice the content ranking on first position? According to Brian Dean, An average content is approx 1900 words long and contain visuals as well.

Do you know, almost 50% of search engine searches from teenagers are voice searches?

Do you know, It is more necessary to optimize the content of keyword intent rather the stuffing keywords, because almost 20% of the queries searched on google are completely new and never been searched before.

And there are many contents who are ranking on top for multiple keywords and intents, so 160 character meta description is not enough for all these stuff and changes happening in searcher dynamics.

What I conclude all of this as google is trying to make snippets completely dynamics to satisfy the searchers according to the specific query and showing the meta description that exactly explains what the user is looking for.
Just like a same proposal won't be much effective for different kind of business as compared to specifically customized for each one.

So I believe google is improving its snippets room to be more customized and dynamic for each searcher.

2017 was the year of content in SEO and 2018 is also expected to be more competitive in terms of quality content. Optimize your content more to reach more audience, intents and voice searches.

*Moderators:I don't exactly know the forum rules but If link is not allowed, you can remove it, I won't have any problem with that. Thank you

Which means we should make our description longer purposely? I think it's not true , I would rather keep the right and most appropriate keywords on that as normal
