Hello all, I'm very new to all the various SEO tactics presented on this forum. I've been running a back link campaign using Paul's and Angela's list. So far that is going very well but I'm starting to slow down on my rankings. I'm guessing that I have to expand on my techniques and have decided to really track some of my results to share.

Basically I've completed all of my on-site optimization and now focused heavily on off-site optimization. That consists of the links mentioned along with additional links that I've been able to find all of which are high PR links.

My next venture is exploring the world of article writing. I've already signed up for Ezine and submitted my first 10 articles. I'm hoping that they get reviewed quickly and I can really start spreading the news about my site. I'm also planning on joining a bunch of other article sites and doing the same. Any suggestions?

On a side note I've also started a blog and forum on my site. It has little visibility and mainly for my clients to use. Please don't try to spam it as I have been dropping people like pesky rodents. Also, I've already had one free press release so this experiment is basically pushing past this hill that I'm currently facing.

My keywords are crazy competitive with around 68 million results. So this will hopefully help people facing similar challenges. I know most people say focus on the easier keywords but that isn't so much of a challenge for me. I've already done that so now on to much bigger challenges. I'm currently ranked anywhere between 16-200 for any given keyword phrases on Yahoo, Bing and Google.

I do plan to expand on this experiment using SE Nuke at a later date. My game plan is to figure out how best to utilize my SEO tactics and at what pace. I've heard people saying not to do too much to fast but I don't believe the hype. If Google doesn't punish for bad links then why would they punish for massive quality links? Same goes for article submission etc. If not, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough and then use the same tactics on my competitors and spam all of them LOL.

Wish me luck.

Will definately watch this thread, good luck with the experiment. Am definately interested in the part where you mention adding links quickly. That should be quite a good one to watch!

Please go with GoArticles as well. You might want to use Digg as a SBM to bookmark your articles.

Right now, in one niche, I have EZA, GoArticles, Digg and then my site showing up in the top 20! Pretty cool!

    Good luck w/ your experiment!

OK so today I added some 250 crap links and made around 16 100% unique articles submitted to both Ezine and GoArticles. I tried to use Digg but it wouldn't allow me to post my links for the articles. I thought people have done that before. Didn't work for me and had an anti spam message when I tried. Hopefully by Monday I'll see some good results.

With 68MM results you have your work cut out for you. My results show that "age of site" is important. If your site is new, it will be an uphill battle for you to top even the crappiest of old sites.

I wish you the best of luck. I myself am trying to come up with a gameplan ( that is, a step by step process that must be followed when a site is launched) in order to ensure at least partial success of a site. Easier said than done.....

    Good luck...

    Cheers

    Update:
I've added those 250 crap links and my keyword ranking improved only 1 spot. I'm not sure if that was from the crap links or left over from a high PR link getting indexed. As for the articles, I've submitted 16 to hubpages and 10 to ezine. Ezine still hasn't reviewed them yet and none of the articles are indexed yet. I'll have to give it a few more days to so some results.

Oh also some idiot stole a few of my articles and submitted them to other places before ezine cleared them so I'm dealing with that issue now. Good thing he was stupid and left my website name and link on the article. Classic idiot move on his part lol. Be careful because people will steal your stuff.

    Update:
OK so I've only had a few more links indexed and it seems like it takes a while for them to get picked up. My rankings on Alexia continue to increase slowly each day but some of my keywords are dropping a few spots now. I've continued my back links from high PR sites and added around 20 articles to Ezine 10 of which are now approved. I've also submitted the same articles to Hubpages. I don't think any of them have been indexed yet because my rankings do not reflect any positive changes yet. Do I just give it more time or am I missing something?
Any advise as to indexing and book marking these articles?

Uhhh turbo ... this experiment started 4 days ago?

So in that period you added 250 "crap backlinks" as you say ... and someone stole your eza content [ lol ] and you havent yet ascended to the top of google or made an advance - YET.

You need to give this a LOT more time to take effect - IMHO. I dont think it technically possible for your 250 crap links to be indexed in that period of time... nor even the articles.

By putting your content on EZA you are essentially giving others the use of it as long as they keep all your full content and urls INTACT. You may want to re-review the TOS / User Agreement there.

Im pretty good at placing backlinks of all classes - crap or otherwise .... Im not sure how you managed to actually place 250 backlinks in 4 days. Bookmarks and backlinks in my mind are very different ...

Thanks for you input. Let me clarify a tad for you. I already have around 100 back links indexed all from high PR sites. I got pissed that my competitor is still ranking higher than me using only crap links so I joined the band wagon and added around 250 crap links. I don't believe they have been indexed yet but should have seen some results after 4 days now. I have submitted now around 40 articles and half have been approved by Ezine and Hubpages. I can not find them being indexed as of yet.
After all the work done I notice my Alexa ranking going really high really quickly but some of my keywords seem to have hit a wall. After all the recent additions a few keywords are actually dropping in rankings now. I still add around 10-15 high PR back links daily so I'm at least keeping up with what has been working thus far. As for the dude stealing my articles, it really came from my forum posts that I converted to articles. They have now taken my article off that other site as I left them know it was stealing.
Now other than telling me why I suck can you explain what I might be doing wrong here and how to improve my rankings?
On a side note I haven't been book marking anything as I don't really understand the principle of it yet. Please explain.

Cmon ... I never said you sucked.

I dont think you're doing anything wrong ... except for perhaps having a bit of modestly unreal expectations of how quickly you should see results.

If you have the time and the sites to link on - crappy or otherwise - keep going!

You are likely experiencing what many site owners have ... google finding your true spot in the index. There's an effect for newer sites that has in the past artificially boosted them towards the top of the rankings because it was FRESH content in the index. After the freshness factor - QDF [ Query Deserves Freshness ] wears off, new sites will start to settle into the index ... and bounce around a bit ... dropping some days, then popping up several spots others. I hate the term but people call it the google dance [ go figger ]

I suspect your site is starting to settle in more to its true SERP position. Popping up and down for newer sites is rather common. If you like articles - go for it and keep building up that stable of content. Build links all the while on different domains like mad.

Ping / jumptag / bookmark / rss feed aggregate whenever you can - wherever you put your content, to hopefully draw attention to it faster [ by bots ]

500 backlinks for a super competitive term - isnt very many. How many backlinks in yahoo site explorer do the top 5 in the index have for your terms?

I've read google tracks the rate of new links to a site, and if it grows too fast they value of them drops (not negative, so can't harm a competitor. Just not as useful)

Thanks for the help fellas. My site has been up for about 6 months now and I'm still sitting at a PR 0. My competitors are all around PR4-6. They have currently around 20-30k back links. Most of the back links are from low or zero PR sites. My key words are still hovering around the pages 4-18 listing on Google, Yahoo and Bing.

    4morereferrals,
What exactly is "Ping / jumptag / bookmark / rss feed aggregate whenever you can - wherever you put your content, to hopefully draw attention to it faster [ by bots ]"

Please keep in mind that this is a new area for me. Thus far I've only manually submitted articles to Hubpages, GoArticles and Ezine. Most all of them have already been approved now. I have yet to ping, jumptag?, bookmark or rss them as I don't know what this entails. I'm like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for your response.

    Update:
Freaking A man this is so time consuming to write articles, submit them, bookmark them, and then ping them. So far I've submitted 18 articles to 3 different sites, bookmarked them on only Digg and haven't pinged anything yet. Total time invested in just this was two days. I've seen posts where people do this way faster and have a ton more articles than I do. I don't understand how this is possible. Perhaps they are using programs to automate this. Just signing up for new accounts took me a few hours and I'm using RoboForm to help speed things up. I know once all are signed up on I won't have to do this again but still it sucked big time. Waiting for Digg to verify all the bookmarks took a long time. There has to be a better way.

Now I've see programs out there like SENuke that automates the whole process but the monthly fee is out of my budget for now. Any ideas on other similar software that is free? I tried Social Marker but it seems that sites have caught on and now blocking it from working on their sites.

OK - so are these articles so you can get content just OUT THERE to drive sales or are these intended as "quality backlinks"? Maybe both?

You typically have to be a pretty solid sales copy writer to get sales traffic from your articles, so ... be sure what your writing and posting articles for is going to be effective.

From a backlinks perspective - there are far easier/ faster wasys to generate backlinks - either to a money site or to the articles or like I do ... both.

I have a handful of articles and the traffic to and from them is next to nada for me. But theryre there.

I'll pm you a little video I made of automation you might like.

Sounds great I'll look forward to see your video. As for the articles they are written to be more informational with back links pointing to my site. No sales pitch really until the end of each article. All the articles are around 500-1000 words if that matters. I guess for today's task I will start using delicious and bookmark my posts. I'm not really familiar with the other sites to use for bookmarking and article submissions but that's easy to find. I really want to automate this though.

    Update:
OK so all of this back linking, book marking, article submission and posting is finally starting to break through the wall that I hit. I'm now popping up higher on the SERP's and doing well. I did make a noob mistake in trying to find my back links through Google. I was first typing link:www.domain.com instead of putting the space in. So now with the correct link: www.domain.com I'm showing 694 links. Holy cow! I've only been working at this for a month and my results are much better than expected. So out of my keywords which have around 50 million page results I'm in the top 100. The one keyword that I have little exposure to due to the 797 million results is still struggling though. That I can understand. For my domain name I'm dominating the whole first page and part of the second page.
For anyone reading my posts I hope this incourages you to keep trying. I know my site will improve further due to not all of my work being indexed yet and that I'm continuing my efforts. Good Luck all and thanks for your input.

OK so I've slowed down a tad on the back linking from profiles on forums etc. It seems that either my old profiles are now getting indexed and my newly submitted articles are starting to pop up. My ranking continues to improve and now new key words are starting to rank fairly well in my tough competition. Over the weekend I totally revamped my website to look much more professional. I'm worried that this change will affect my SEO efforts. Honestly the changes are so drastic it should result in a much higher conversion ratio and that's what I'm focused on. Around 11 of my articles on Ezine still haven't been approved yet so I'm sure once they do get approved I'll further up my chances of showing up higher on SERP's. I'll keep updating my site and posting of my results in the near future.

    Update:
So after having a completely new website design and about 10 extra pages added I'm sure my site will get more authority. I'll have to wait for the pages to get indexed. I have been working on the site for the last 2-3 days so all of my back linking and article submissions have halted. Results, today I found around 20 more back links indexed and my rankings went up. Also some secondary key words are now ranking really high. What this proves to me is that it truly does take time for the search engines to crawl and index the various sites where I placed my links. Even not having to have done much in the last 3 days my site is still performing much better than anticipated. The articles that I've written are starting to show up being indexed now. I'm still waiting on around 11 more for Ezine to approve before I go bookmarking them. More update to follow.

I ended up getting some insider news today about events in my industry. I wanted to find out how fast I could get ranked and found by posting a new blog submission and a one article. My articles aren't found because they are still in review. I should have known better duh. My blog however was found about 5 minutes after posting it. I have bookmarked it on around 10 sites and it is now showing up #2 on the first page. The odd thing is that I haven't linked any keywords or done any SEO on it. Various key word searches for terms listed on my blog are ranking really well. Of course my site will get more exposure from this but I'm simply amazed at the power of a blog post. I feel that you get immediate results from it and that back linking the traditional way is much harder. I have no clue how long my post will remain at the top but so far I'm a happy camper.

I see there are a ton of views on my post and would like to get some feedback from you guys to see what has worked for you in the past.
