Because in the past couple months Google has adjusting the algorithm to evaluate the AMP pages, and make them a factor in ranking. It is important to make the site as mobile friendly as realistically possible.

My view is "don't use it."

AMP copies part of your site to Google's servers. They serve them from there to mobile users.

As you may already know, Google tracks everything it can, so using AMP is going against the privacy of your users.

Again, my view is "don't use it."

The Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project is an open source initiative that makes it easy for publishers to create mobile-friendly content once and have it load instantly everywhere.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) is specially for mobile users. It is easy to publish the mobile friendly content and to get better ranking results on mobile device users. AMP is the website publishing technology designed to improve the performance of web content and advertisements.

Accelerated Mobile Pages Project (AMP) is an interesting concept and a lot of big names have signed up to it as can be seen at the bottom of the massive project home page. I'd also never bet against Google when it comes to web technologies, but I honestly am struggling to see the point of AMP. Why not just create a lighter webpage yourself? OK the caching part of it is an added incentive, but that's basically the same as using a CDN, which any big publisher will most likely use.

I know I need to work on my site speed, but I much prefer to have control over my site and serve up my site directly to visitors rather than handing the keys to Google to go for a joyride on it. But if AMP becomes a serious ranking signal on its own, and if it affects desktop indirectly, I might still change my mind.
