the .com of the domain name I want is unavailable, but I could get either .net or .info. This site isn't one where having the user be able to remember the URL is important.

I'm wondering, is it really more difficult to get Google love with a .info? Would a .net be a big SEO benefit?
#info #net

If it's a site that you're going to have be a target website, then I'd go with the .net. I only use .info's if I'm building a blog farm/network and need a ton of domains (since they are MUCH cheaper at <$1.00/domain.

.net for sure. There are rumors (or myth =p) that since .info is a cheaper domain google doesn't like it as much. Which seems true if you look at serps you'll see very few if any .info sites on page 1, but can usually find a few .net

So if both are available I'd go with .net, no point taking a potential seo penalty for 9$/year.

    Google "loves" both equally
It all depends of the content of the site and it`s optimization, not domain by itself.
I agree with Jeff Scott. In this situation (without knowing too much about content/purpose of your website) my vote goes to .net, too.

In SEO, domain extension is little important when it comes to geographical targeting. Other then that, domain extensions do not have affect on SEO. A site with any extension can rank as high as a domain with a .com extension.
