Well obviously buy if the domain is available.

And it doesn't help much unless it is the exact keyword that the audience is looking for and obviously it will help your audience to remember your site more easily.

Definitely think of your URL as a part of your branding strategy and not an SEO thing. Stick to .com or .net or at least a more recognizable TLD as well.

Trust me, I speak from experience when I say your website address needs to be easy to communicate over the phone or on a business card. Keep it simple, and buy the .com if you can. I wish I could afford mine, but they want like $3,500 and we're not there yet.

It's not totally neccesary, Google avoided targeting or ranking from keywords in the domain name un 2012, but it will help you don't lose several visitors.

      No.

Nobody ranks because of a domain name.
      • If they rank for the keyword in their domain name it's because they have followed authority backlinks pointing at their domain/pages with their domain/keyword as anchor-text.
      • Their entire site makes reference to the keyword because it's their domain/business name, example, Best Buy mentions best buy a billion times because it's a brand name. It's who they are but it's also a great partial keyword so they pick up every longtail that includes best buy.
      • Odds are every single page title on their site includes the domain/keyword/brand name.

The point here is, it's multiple triggers ranking a page, not a domain name. Need proof? Create a domain and one blank page, no backlinks, nothing, don't even mention the domain name/keyword. It will never rank.
