If the Google Keyword Planner does not work for you, then I recommend checking out Market Samurai (marketsamurai.com). Their keyword tool is really simple to use. I have found really valuable keywords with it. There is a free version available.

I like TrafficTravis. It is free and it will save hours of hassles and is a lot better than google keyword planner. But in free plan, it has some limitation, like a maximum of 100 kws per search. However, in most cases 100 is more than enough.

To my understanding, Google Keyword Planner tool is geared to show the more commercial terms. You can use Google Autocomplete and Related Searches to look for long tails, instead, for example.

    Hi AbhiTan,

For a non SEO aka allergic to techie guy who gets nervous even reading this post title LOL I suggest Uber Suggest.

Reviewed it, dig it, and yep, even for a guy resistant to keywords, it works well long tail or short tail.

Neil Patel is da SEO man. He churns out endless valued free content and if he attaches his name to any product or service, it is good money.
