I can't find the thread here but there was some discussion I think about how "and" and "the" in the domain name are ignored by google as far as SEO goes. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Brad

I believe these are stop words, and the SE's don't take notice of them. I may be mistaken on that one.

There is a huge list of "stop words", such as those you mentioned and including "for", "but", "a ", "all", etc, which are ignored by Google when it looks at your domain name.

You can probably find such a list by googling "stop words".

If you really think words in domains matter so much, then
what, praytell, is a zillow? As in zillow.com.

What is the amazon? Is it books? Then why is amazon.com
all about books (and a whole lot more) and not the river?

Words in urls have nothing, nada, zip,to do with how
search engines will value your site.

        Websites get indexed. Not urls.

Do you know what trulia.com is about? Probably not.
But it is a golden website with very high ranking for specific
search words and phrases. The people that run trulia decided
NOT to go for keywords. Or maybe all the keyword rich domains
were taken by people who thought the domain would matter.

SEO your website. The domain is secondary. Or even tertiary.
Or maybe does not even matter.
