How to get listed on Google Places for certain keywords?

Hi all. A friend of mine has a landscape gardening business and I am helping him with the online promotion. I've set up a website for him and listed him on Google Places. However, his listing for Google Places only comes up when you type his company name into Google. We want his business to come up when people type in 'landscape gardeners (followed by the name of my city)'. We notice that other landscape gardeners in our area come up on Google Places when we type this into Google, so how do we get ourselves on there (preferably in the top few listings)?

Also, is there a way to get the website on the first page of Google for when people search keywords to do with gardening for our city?

Thanks.

A few tips (I've ranked all my own clients in top 3 for major cities and very competitive niches).

The first is not a point as it is a MUST HAVE. You need reviews for both GMB and conversions. It's estimated that 90% of people check online reviews before making a purchase decision.

***** REVIEWS, REVIEWS, REVIEWS (get a review builder portal and make sure they push 4 & 5 star reviews online and 1 - 3 star reviews to stay private. This helps your listing and conversions hugely. *****

    1. Make sure your listing and all your online citations are correct.

This means you need to check every single online listing for the business and fix any incorrect details. Eg their GMB address is: 1/5 Bob St Bob City CA USA

but they have listings that say:

Unit 1, Number 5 Bob Street, Bob City, California, United States of America

it might seem the same to you, but not to Google.

You need to try to get the exact same (try to copy/paste) details from your GMB listing. It isn't always possible as some sites have a different method, but keep as close as possible. And definitely fix all incorrect addresses.

You should do a full citation audit to determine what citations they have and which ones are indexed and listed.

    2. Press releases: send out a monthly press release so that they get lots of top quality citations (most PR's have the business details at the bottom of the release). Make sure you use the right PR distribution service, they are not all created equal. The one I use gets you links from Fox, ABC, and many more major media outlets.

You also need to have a good PR writer who will use the best keywords in the PR to maximize your client's potential. You can drive a lot of traffic with a good PR!

    3. Build more citations: only get the best citations. Try to get as many as possible in the same niche/industry as your clients. You can check their high ranking competitors by doing a search and using a tool like majestic.com to find out what citations they have (or go to Whitespark and pay the $20 a month fee to do a heap of citation searches to get all the main citations that your competitors have that are helping them to rank).

Make all the citations exactly the same as your GMB listing (see point 1).

    4. Have your website working and well optimized with on page SEO so that it correlates with the categories in your GMB listing. Make sure it is responsive and works fast and well on mobile devices.

    5. Build links to your citations. Boost all your citations by building links to them and ensuring that Google indexes as many as possible.

    6. Geo tag your GMB images. Show Google exactly where you or your clients are by taking their images and geo tagging them with the city or suburb. Upload to GMB listing. Do this as often as possible.

    7. Share new images and posts on your Google+ page. You can also share your new citations on your G+ page (just put a bunch of the citation links in a new G+ post).

    8. Check your categories and make sure you are showing up for all your main categories and the ones your competitors use.

    9. Optimize your description in GMB but don't overstuff keywords. Make it read well and just write your keywords once (maximum 2x).

    10. Embed your Google map on lots of web 2.0's and build links to the 2.0's. Share on social media for social proof.

    11. Generate maps to and from the business. Directions to major centers in the city help Google know where you are and where you travel to. This is particularly useful for businesses that travel to their clients such as plumbers. If they create a lot of driving directions from their business to their clients', Google will understand better their radius of work and you are more likely to appear in a wide range of searches.

'landscape gardeners (followed by the name of my city)'. it needs to analysis regional and long tail keyword based on landscape gardeners, and use them in Organic campaign fully ethical way. Then you will get traffic for your business and bit your competitor rank in Google SERP. It will take 4 to 5 month.

I think that it is easy to get caught up into the keyword frenzy and ranking.Things like views perpage directwebsitelinks, time spent on each page, page load speed have much more of an influence on ranking than do keywords I would suggest you to write valuable in a conversational tone for humans not google. Narrow down your search for keywords so that you aren't in such saturated market.
