You can guest posting and web 2.0 for good links.
The high authority websites will not accept low-quality content so make sure your content is decent enough.
Also, there are so many sites that accept mediocre guest posts too so that can work too.

According to me, Instead of creating web 2.0, submitting a blog in sites like HubSpot, ezine etc. can be much beneficial and time-saving as well.

Social Bookmarking sites - Stumbleupon, Reddit, etc.

I would also start blogging and let links build up naturally as you share your blog posts all over the social world.

At the OP, you only need links from active websites that are geographically and/or topically related to yours. Forget the rest. Just forget the rest.

Honestly, you're going to have better results by just doing some local SEO and reputation management best practices and run a Google Search Ad campaign to get results faster. Local SEO is all about directory claiming and reviews IMO.

This right here is the best answer by far.. someone that understands how search works in todays world. I might ADD to this that CITATIONS the more localized the better are also needed. In the process of developing citations, you will end up with backlinks in the process.

My all time favorite way to build backlinks is by getting backlinks that competitors have.

So in this instance, I would run that site through ahrefs to find out who the ranking competitors are for the keywords you are trying to rank for.

After that, I would look at the backlinks that thos competitors have and determine how they were able to get those backlinks (forum, guest post, etc.)

Then you can simply just copy the way they got those backlinks. You wont be able to get them all, but if you can get a few from each competitor, that will definitely add up.

Nothing is better than competitors websites analysis for quality backlink ideas. Doesn't matter in which industry you are working on, just analyse competitors websites thorugh tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush and it will show you the complete backlink sources where you can also put your content for quality backlinks.

Is linking as important in 2019 as it was in 2009. Am starting to see sites with zero PA/DA with no link outrank established 10 plus years older sites with hundreds of good quality links. Supposing if links are no longer as relevant what then is replacing as the most important ranking factor in Rankbrain's mind.

You might be right, but in my opinion, I don't think those webpages stay up the pile for long without having to build links to increase the authority of the page!
You might create a good post of great quality and quantity, and then you rank high up the search results, but lack of backlinks and constant updating of your post will make you drop as fast as you have ranked!

You can try building links through blog commenting, guest blogging, forum submissions, and social bookmarking.

Since you have a website for Physical Therapist, you can search for relevant blogs related to your content then you can insert your site's link in the comment of those blogs.

But remember one thing. Your website must have relevant information and decent content. Then only you will get an appropriate backlink!

For creating backlinks I always follow my working plan and create backlinks on daily basis in different ways. I do the below tasks on regular basis:
1- Blog comments
2- Web 2.0
3- Forum Posting
4- Social Bookmarking
5- PPT/PDF Submission
6- Video Sharing

Keep in mind that don't overload do slowly.

Health Blogs, Therapy Blogs, Alternative Medicine, Sports & Excercise blogs. Plug in those examples in the advanced Google Search Operators to find prospects. Use at least 2 link building strategies.

Recommended strategies:
1. Guest posts - Write high quality content and post it on external websites. Include at least 2 backlinks in the content body.

2. Content marketing - Find a blog post with a lot of links. Write a superior content on the same topic and email the people who linked to that content suggesting them to link your awesome new content.

NOTE: Make sure you're using all search engines (not just Google) and using country-specific versions of Google (I.E. Google.com, Google.Ca, Google.co.uk - depending on the client Geo-location)

Try to engage yourself at Social Media & also post quality content along with your blog website & posts. Connect with organic people with same industry of your business, ask them to connect with you & read your content. LOCAL SUBMISSIONS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON.
Forum discussions are also helpful in getting organic traffic for website. Just remember don't consider forum submissions in link building. They are great for connecting with knowlegeable people and as a real traffic source.

If you're in a position to create videos (you can use your smartphone to record yourself talking), upload those to your YouTube channel. Put a link to your site in your video description. Add some relevant keywords into your video title, video description and tags. Then get the embed code for your video and put that somewhere on your site. Share the video URL on social media sites.

An alternative is to so a Facebook Livestream event where you talk about your topic. That's a lot more nerve-wracking as you're putting yourself out there, completely unedited.

Today I am going to share a very good backlink strategy which I am following since last 2 years for my projects and believe me getting awesome results. Get links from broken links but how? Here is a details how I do this:

1- Find relevant blogs on google search engine
2- check the authority
3- check the broken links (Using check my links extension)
4- contact the admin through contact form or social profiles
5- let him know about his broken links
6- offer your link to exchange

Note: You way of communication with admins should be helping not greedy.
