Wordpress Automation for Google Sniper Sites

I've had some phenomenal success with the xfactor adsense method and I'm diversifying my income stream with George's Google Sniper method for affiliate marketing.

I approach both almost the exact same way in terms of the onpage SEO so perhaps you could say that I'm already using Google Sniper techniques on my adsense sites.

However, with GS, I will be using wordpress pretty extensively. And since each of my sniper sites will essentially share the same structure and plug-ins, it cries out for automation.

Can someone who has some experience with wordpress automation and bluehost clue me in if I'm able to set up a customized default wordpress installation and just copy it with one click?

Ideally, I want the base install to create a 4 page site with everything ready to go (home page, about us, privacy, etc) and all I want to have to do is FIND/REPLACE for my niche KWP and just import my story post and pics.

I'm far-right brained and have a short attention span. I want to set it up and move on to the next deal :-)

So, in bluehost CP, when I click a button to create a new Wordpress install on a new domain, I want it to....

1) Install the about us, contact us and privacy policy pages.
2) Create the 3 posts that will be my main page content.
3) Install and configure my default plug-ins (Google Sitemaps, All in One SEO, Pretty Link Cloaker, Find/Replace)
4) Change permalinks to SEO friendly URLs

All I want to have to do is add my content, some photos, choose a theme and roll...

Any ideas?

  • Assuming your host provides Fantastico, the basic Wordpress installation should be very quick & painless. From there, organize your plugins, etc. into folders. If you use common naming conventions for your site FTP accounts, you should be able to easily FTP over, and simply drag the 'plugins' and 'theme' folders.

BTW, you can use the "Privacy Policy" plugin for a near-instant Google compliant Privacy Policy and Contact page: Privacy Policy Plugin For WordPress

You can also use db-manager if you want to do very quick & easy copying of a specific WP blog, meaning database and all: WordPress › WP-DBManager WordPress Plugins

You'll still have to go in and do the configuration & setup, but as I've been doing multiple WP sites every day for a while now, I can tell you it will end up taking you only about 20- minutes per, once you get your 'routine' down.

Alternately, and something to consider if you're going to be doing this sort of thing on a regular ongoing basis, is to look into WordpressMU (Multi-User). It essentially gives you a central WP Dashboard for managing multiple sites, including some facilities for moving & copying:

WordPress MU › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform

I've seen some paid tools claiming to do a full cloning, but haven't tried any.

Hi Mark, thanks for all the tips on the FTP setup. That's definitely the default path I'm on without automation, but I hate to have to waste precious time configuring stuff. I look for automation at every turn. I don't want to waste one second setting up pages, installing and configuring plug-ins and on and on when it can be done without thinking by a script.

I want to get right into the content and move on to the next niche site, so every minute I'm spending with setting something up, is a minute I'm not able to spend uncovering my next killer niche. The real art to this business is where I like to spend my time. Not the minutia stuff that does not require any creative thought.

I will check out WordPress MU. I had heard of it but nothing in depth yet. Perhaps its the key that I'm looking for...

  • There's an incredibly powerful 'macro recorder' that does a ton more than record & play back keystrokes that might fit the bill for this, and anything else you want to automate. Though you're lazy, this one's worth learning.

Jack Duncan wrote a superb thread on using this in the War Room if you're able to go there.

WinAutomation - Windows Automation Software & Macro Recorder - Windows Scripting - Automate and Schedule Windows tasks

It includes a 30 or 45 day free trial.

Learn how to edit the wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php file. You can take out the default blogroll links, hello world post, specify a password, change the default Uncategorized category and more. Not for noobs though. Stick to fantistico or wpmu if you're not comfortable editing one php file.

I find it much faster to do multiple installs if I don't have to waste time with all that junk.

I do have both GS and WP Mage and they are a perfect match. The WP Mage will completely automate your GS sites! I really recommend looking into the complete CP Mage system, as it cuts down your setup and management time to almost nothing. (It is rather pricey though and I don't think it launches till nov. 5. correct me if I am wrong, Greg.)

Try WordPress MU. We installed this package on our servers and started offering it to our hosting customers as a free add-on. A plugin was developed to map other plugins and plugin settings to each new blog that's created. It works great. Nothing to install or configure when creating new blogs.

There are a few performance issues on the Admin panel, but they are easily corrected by using HTTP compression on the outbound stream. I'm not familiar with BlueHost's server setup, so you would need to discuss this with their tech support team to see if it's viable.

I'm using WPMage right now, to do EXACTLY what you describe, in addition to creating related content automatically.

I've also used WPMU and love it, but it won't create content. Also, you will only subdomains or subdirectories. With WPmage, each is it's own separate domain.

One thing I'm experimenting with is combining the two. So, on one of my WPMU sites, I created a few new blogs, and used just the mage plugins to create content. Pretty nifty! I should tinker with it some more. But I'm focusing on the full WPMage system right now.

The inability if WPMU to handle full domains is a non starter, so I suppose you just saved me some wasted research effort.

I've been looking into MAGE and I'm reading through Greg's free ebook on the system - its very well written and Greg appears to know his stuff.

I'm sure the MAGE system is well worth the money, but I'm reluctant to opt for a system that requires an ongoing monthly payment to operate. I dislike dependencies. Perhaps you can change my mind though...

I'm also looking for a wordpress "master template" tool for the same reason that Clickbump is

I remember coming across something similar a couple of years ago, but cannot find it anywhere.

In essence you create a "master" wordpress blog and all your subsequent installations are copies of that blog, including the settings, plugins and theme.

Anybody have an idea on how to do this?

          Thanks

Wordpress MU CAN handle multiple domains with the right configuration, but the big problem with it is that you can't set default plug-in configurations for new sites, meaning you still have to go in and set everything up to your liking.

However, it IS very possible to clone an installation w/ all the default plug-ins, and even change the content through an external script. With Wordpress, everything is stored in the database, including plug-in settings and actual post content, so all you need to do is get your developer to write a script to interface directly with the database and you're golden.

I searched high and low for exactly what you're looking for (I use my script with the xfactor method) and I couldn't find a thing. Then I created a skeleton version of my ideal Wordpress install, dug through the DB and found the fields that needed to be changed, and had my developer create a handy script. Apparently it was pretty easy, it only took him a few hours.

My setup time has gone from ~25 minutes for a new site to 3-5 min. It's very hard not to launch 20 sites a day now . I'd shoot you the script, but it's not that easy since it has to be customized to exactly your setup. If you have any questions though I'd be happy to help.

One thing that piqued my interest...

In the bluehost control panel, they have replaced fantastico with "Simple Scripts". Simple scripts has the option to import an existing wordpress installation. It would appear that I can set up a wordpress base install exactly like I'm talking about and just import that for each of my new sites (rather than installing a default wordpress)

I'm going to test this out and report back...

Just use WP ManagerDX. In 15 seconds I'm ready to rock and roll. Everything is installed and activated. Plugins, database, themes, pages, posts, permalink structure. Blogroll removed, Hello World post removed. Doesn't get much sweeter than that. Set up the options one time and you are one click away from 100 installs in 15 seconds each. The only thing you need to change with each install is the domain URL. No monthly fees either Add the front page content then you are good to go. Add the front page content before you install and save even more time.

BTW, you can also do batch installs. Set up 10 domain URLs, push one button and you are styling.

I think the main feature for wpmage is for putting out junk content on your site... I have already looked into this before and there are ways of making wpmu work for addon domains instead of subdomains.

      binaryturf.com/using-wordpress-μ-mu-for-multiple-domains/
      tomaltman.com/2009/09/multiple-domain-names-on-wordpress-mu/

These require some small modifications to the db, but there is probably a plugin by now that will do it automatically. I'll look into it for you if your interested.

One thing you might want to look at is WP CLoner - I use Joomla a lot and there's a joomla add on that lets you clone (take an exact copy of) your joomla site and copy/install it on another domain. Looks like WP cloner does that for wordpress

Hi S4L, the draw of wordpress is that it makes it insanely easy to get a site up since 95% of the site is built into the template, you just have to add your site's unique content (product pages and images).

Plus, it can be automated with script to make it even easier.

I've attached the control panel from a WordPress templating system which caters to one click creation of xFactor style adsense sites. Perhaps you can get the flavor of the value of WordPress in this regard...

The other thing is that there appears to be a magical affinity between G and WP... The sites tend to rank faster and higher than comparable sites deployed in either static html or other platforms... (unscientific but widely acknowledged)

clickbump, I do not recommend the MU method.

I went the route before and now I am switching all to standard WP.

The power of WP lies in it's massive plugins and themes. MU is not compatible with many.

Also, not wise to put all your eggs in one basket (single database with MU).

Hi Clickbump and everyone else I have a question on one of the techniques used on M.Jones affiliate code

it was about using word press mus sites to generate back links what I want to know is that since M. Jones says you should use it for blogger and not a brand new domain ending .com

    Say I have a site called teez.blogspot.com

and then I can later custom domain it to teez.com via blogger.

Will be wrong in thinking that since its technically a blogger I can use the word press mu method to build some backlinks to teez.com

or should I sue the method to build backlinks whilst it is still teez.blogspot.com and then when its ranked custom domain it then to teez.com

Hi Teez, I have not used the M.Jones method myself, but I can comment generally on of few of your takeaways.

      1) Building backlinks from a single IP address is not as effective as building backlinks from unique IPs.

      2) If you build backlinks to teez.blogspot.com, then later change the address to teez.com, you would have to change all of your backlinks to point to the new address. It doesn't matter if its a blogger hosted site or not, its the web address that ultimately matters.

Hope that helps. Perhaps someone who has actually field tested these methods can comment further on the specifics of using MU sites to build backlinks.

Ahhh I didnt know that Click Bump thats at least allowed me to know that theres no point in building backlinks to a blogger blog which i then want to convert to a .com

Man thanks a lot cb cos if you hadnt told me that I would have taken a blog which ive worked on for over a year and just recently ranks on the first page of googlle and turned it into a .com cos I thought everything would remain the same.

Geeez thanks for that clickbump I actually believed all my backlinks would still point to the .com version. I didnt know changing teez.blogspot.com to teez.com would pretty much mean I would have to start from scratch all over again .

Thanks a mill click bump i know a lot of people at Uni who will find this piece of info valuable cos we were all not sure of the effects of the .blogspot.com to the .com transition and none of us wanted to really take the plunge
