2018 vs 2017 Organic Traffic Down Across Many Clients

2017 was a good year for us as far as organic traffic goes pretty much across the board.
2018 was either stagnant or significantly worse than 2017 for most of our SEO clients.
Rankings are generally the same or better than they were in 2017.
I'm trying to figure out what the overall issue is. I doubt there are less search queries now than there was in 2018 and that traffic is going somewhere (maybe new cards and featured snippets are preventing some of the traffic we used to get?)
Has anybody else noticed the same issue?
Was there a known change in GA starting in 2018 such as Google proactively blocking more bot traffic that used to get counted as organic? or some fairly significant algorithm updates that I should look more into?
