And how is it used in IM or SEO?

I just read someone recommending it on another thread. I went to the site but how is it used for IM.

Thanks for the replies!

DMOZ is a free/non profit directory service, google places very high value on your site if it is listed in DMOZ.
But! It is very, very difficult to get listed on DMOZ directory, especially if your site is new.

The best strategy is to apply for your site/sites no more than once a month, and if you get rejected (most of the time) try listing in a new category. This way you may get a more sympathetic reviewer.

Things I've read, not sure if they are true or not...

    1. DMOZ is not as important as it used to be.
    2. Could take several weeks to be accepted.
    3. Yes, hard to get listed there.

I got my site listed on DMOZ is less than a week. It helped that I was the editor of course.

Find a category in your niche that does not have an editor, it may take a bit but you can find one. If it doesn't have an editor, it will have a link to "become an editor" or something along those lines.

Fill out the application, submit it and as long as you are English Speaking, it takes less than a week to get approved or denied as a DMOZ editor. Then submit your site...and then approve your site.

If you can get listed it will definitely help but don't sweat over not getting in. There are alot of other great directories and link building opportunities out there.

      * Abuse by editors (not often)
      * Can take a long time to have your site reviewed

Tips for submitting your site to Dmoz

      other sites.

      to use.
      * Check for spelling and general mistakes on your site.
      * Submit your site to a relevant categories, otherwise your submission
      will be delayed.
      * Submit your site only once

      Becoming a Dmoz Editor
It's easy to become an editor at Dmoz, all you have to is,

      * Find a category that you would like to maintain.
      * Click the Become an Editor link at the top of the category
      page.
      * You will then have to find 2 or 3 sites to add to that category
and explain your reasons why you wish to edit in that category.
