One Keyword Per AdGroup - Anyone Doing This?

Hey Gang,

I've heard mixed thoughts on the strategy of placing just one keyword in each adgroup (whether it is search or content)

The main "negative" I have heard of this strategy, is the fact that you are limited to 2,000 adgroups, so if you end up with more than 2,000 keywords...you can't scale up any further without creating another account (or maybe just another campaign?)

The main "pro" I have heard is tighter themed adgroups can equal higher CTR and impressions for quality score...

What do you guys think?

How often do you go over the 2,000 adgroup mark with such a strategy?

I don't think you need to only put 1 keyword per ad group. As long as they are VERY tightly themed together you will see a good CTR and quality score. In theory a good idea but in practice its a logistical nightmare and not actually required.

Just ensure that your keyword is mentioned as much as possible in the title, desciprions and the url part and you shoudl be ok, you can also add in dynamic keyword insertion but that wont add to your quality score but may get the clicks.

    Good luck

    Thanks

Yes, limit your groups to VERY related keywords.

      large dog collars
      large dog callar
      big dog collars
      collars for big dogs

      etc.

Remember the 80/20 rule. Focus on the 20% of keywords that will earn you 80% of your income. For the rest, dump them into larger ad groups.
