How to reduce my website Spam Score?

Hello,

I have a blog that it's around 10 months old. I've been working on it's SEO for a few months now.

That been said, i noticed with MOZ tool that the spam score of my website is 22%, when i looked up the backlinks of my domain, i found out that it has many Chinese backlinks who's spam score is really high. (i already uploaded a disavow file)

I'm guessing the previous owner of my domain name did some black hat SEO. Now i have to clean up his mess. So I would like to know if there is a way to level the spam score of my website.

What can i do to fix this problem? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    To reduce your spam score, you first need to identify some toxic links and get rid of them. I suggest you install moz bar addon on your chrome tab. Access each link pointing to your site. At the top of your screen, moz will show you the spam score of each website. The websites increasing your spam score are the ones with high moz spam score.

    You can get rid of these links by either contacting the various webmasters to take down those spammy links.

    Or you build more non spammy links. I suggest you build backlinks on sites with spam score less than 4%. That way your moz spam score will drastically reduce as you build more healthy links.

      Most of those spammy websites are unreachable, they seem abandoned and deserted.

      These websites are in the form of like blogpost in Chinese. There doesn't seem any mean to reach the owner.

      Would it be possible that blogpost could remove one of their sites if i file a complaint ?

    Just ignore it. The MOZ SPam Score is not used by Google or any other search engine as a ranking metric.


    It's just a MOZ score telling you that links to you have low DA and PA .... ie meaningless.


    You could waste all your time getting rid of those links to lower that Spam Score ... or you could spend that time doing something that actually improves your site in the search rankings.

      I already did the disavow. Approximately, how much time does it takes to kick in?

      I have uploaded and updated the disavow file several time. Does that affects the kick in time/delay?

          Lol, no. Rather in Google. So i'm assuming that the spam score will remain the same since Moz doesn't have access to Google's data.

          But what i meant by my question, is how much time until the disavow file starts to kick in with Google not MOZ ?

            As Google pretty much just ignores crap links, its probably not going to make any difference to your Google ranking.

    I think you can follow some tips like Create a text version, Use normal text inside hyperlinks, instead of the URL, use a proper from address, subject line, use short Images and alt tag is compulsory, remove HTML errors.

      What do you mean by irreversible damage?

      The thing is when i bought the domain name, i believe it had this spam score for a very long time, and it's just lately that i have noticed it!

      You clearly have zero idea what you are talking about.

      1. How many links you make in a day has no direct impact on spam score.
      2. Moz cannot see your disavow file.
      3. You can use whatever you want. It doesn't matter. You can use images. You can use videos. You could use bold text, italic text, 120 point text... it doesn't matter.
      4. None of that has to do with spam score.
      5. Unique content has nothing to do with spam or Moz's stupid spam score.

    To reduce your website spam score it's very easy just go to moz.com enter your domain and search for backlinks.

    backlinks having spam score more than 20% copy all those links and make a spreadsheet of that.

    After that go to the webmaster search console and click on disavow feature and you have to upload that file there and submit.

    When Google disavow your list your spam score will decrease.

        I've already hired someone to contact the owner of the sites to remove my link, also did disavow the entire domain names of those sites.

        However, if i can't get a hold of the owners, i can maybe get through a domain broker to buy the domains of their sites, then their websites will go down, right? (because the sites seem to me to have been abandoned for a long time).

      You will notice that one of them has to do with the length of your domain name, another one with what's in your domain name (numbers and hyphens correlate to them with spam). You will notice that if you don't link to your linkedin account on your site, it counts against you, too. So does not having a favicon or a facebook pixel...

    Whether or not a tool categorises your links as spam, how do you feel about them? if they lead to a chinese website that has the same topic as yours it's not necessarily spam. If it leads to a dubious website then obviously it is. It's not always Blackhat SEO but it's a concern, so I'd suggest to look through all of them and put those in a list that you consider spam. Then you can upload that list in the google disavow tool. It doesn't mean the links will be deleted but it means they will be ignored by google.

    Disavow is good way but need to care about minor mistake if disavow links..... Additionally need to create more weight full links to level your spam score .. and try to avoid spammy links from your website (If you are placing external links at your site).

    Spamming increases due to high numbers of Toxic link. You have to remove all toxic links on your website. Whenever you create a backlink of a website, check its spam score in its Mozbar. Do not create backlinks on websites with more than 10% spam score.

    • You can include comments for yourself by starting a line with a # mark.

    After that, you have to upload the file using the disavow links tool page.

    • Select your website.

      I wouldn't stress about something that's pretty much out of your control. Put the effort into building your sites and increasing Alexa rank, traffic, backlinks, etc. My site has tons of backlinks due to members reference links and the spam score is 8%. I'm sure there are many links on spammy websites. Even if my spam score was 99%, would I put time into trying to remove these links? Hell no! My time is better spent trying to gain more members. Keep moving forward. Just my honest opinion.

    Its very easy to increase website spam score by the following methods.

    Find the low page rank website and place your website link.

    Check the spam score of hacked website and get the spam link source.

    Place your website URL in the highest spam score website from the 2nd point website list.

    Submit back links in low quality websites will increase the possibility of affect by spam.

      The thing is, what if it's your competition that is doing this to your site? There's no way you can control this so might as well put your efforts elsewhere. I would just ignore the spam score and work on improving traffic.

    1. You must remove all the spam and unused back links associated to your website.
    2. Improve the content of your site and erase all the plagiarized data from it.
    3. Check your website backlinks on ahrefs tool and remove the connection from all spammy data or links with other websites.
    4. Erase the repeated content in your website.

    If we want to reduce the spam score of our blog or website, then we will have to find low quality links that are linked to your site and should be disavowed by creating a list of these links. Create more external links.

      You should do nothing. Moz, in the article they have on their site about how they figure out your spam score says you should do nothing if you have a high spam score.

      Read the article.

      Did you know that one of the reasons you get marked as spammy is a very short domain name? Something like wix.com is spammy, as per MOZ.

    To reduce the spam score of your website, first of all, just look at the backlinks and find out the spamming backlinks and use the Disavow tool to remove those spammy backlink.

      I have asked this repeatedly in this thread, but no one offering this advice has yet come back to answer, so could you please come back and answer this: How does MOZ get access to the disavow tool to reduce the Spam Score?

          I know they don't!! I just facetiously calling out the clowns who think submitting a disavow file reduces the spam score. Not one of those clowns have returned to answer my question, which is pretty obvious that they can't,

            It's ok man, different people, different opinions.
            I used to think a while ago that the disavow would actually impact the spam score, soon i found out that they had no direct relation whatsoever.

            But disavowing is a last resort option which certainly impacts the quality backlink that google rate your page for (which isn't disclosed anywhere).

            Overall, depending on the site, the disavow takes a maximum of 2 months to take effect. Hope this helps whoever reads this !

    Google does not consider spam scores to be a ranking factor determinant, but if you must get rid of the toxic score, you can use a tool like ahrefs and SEMrush to get the job done.

      I know that SEMrush handles the toxic score by revealing the spam score and allowing you to message the sites with backlinks.

      However, i'm using Ahrefs, and i never seen anything related to spam score. Would you care to elaborate how i can use Ahrefs for this purpose?

    First you have to chjecjk what kind of spam, appeared on your site. are they created to email, content, comments, and else. than if iy's related to any technical term that you have to edit that rules and ways you follow, and if it's related to backlinks and content, comments links that you can fix by a tool disabove on google, which help you filter anwantee and spamy links.

    Well, Google doesn't care much about spam score. However, if you really want to reduce your spam score, try things like using normal text inside hyperlinks, or get a webmaster to clean it all up! That's definitely a simple and quick way to reduce your spam score.
