Excluded Pages on Search Console

Hi there,

I've been having some issues with Search Console as of late.

For some reason, the number of Excluded Pages is rising -- and for a reason I'm unsure. Perhaps others have experienced the same thing.

My site is about offering a course to all law enforcement agencies in the US - 9,000+ of them. So the landing page content is pretty much the same, except that the police agency name is changed. I want to rank all agencies if possible.

My number of valid pages has dropped from 5,743 in early January to 1,657 today - and this number is steadily dropping. That said, my sales are still pretty healthy, but that said, this issue needs to be fixed to maximize income.

    One common problem I see all the time is people (plugins or software) marking pages as "noindex" which will flag red on Google Console under "excluded pages".

    Sounds silly, but it happens, so that's the first thing I'd double check. Console should give you a clue as to why it's excluded though.

    You can send me some examples of your excluded urls that are flagged inside your console dashboard and I can have a quick look at it for you to see if I can help, just drop me a PM

    You really think Google is going to rank you for thousands of pages that are all identical except for a couple of words?! This isn't 2005. Google has obviously detected that the pages are all duplicate content and are cleaning up.

    I think you should try to create unique content for all the locations you want to target. If you can't develop long content, make it short but unique for all location pages. Because sometimes Google can exclude the pages if it finds that the content is the same. Apart from that, check if there is any rule written in robots.txt to disallow the page indexing by accident. Moreover, check if there is any meta no-index,no-follow tags in the pages which stop the search engine from indexing the website pages. These are some of the reasons why any pages are not indexed by search engines.

    Duplicate content! Believe me - been there - done that. It was actually just 200 pages where basically just the name and address were different. I went from 200 indexed pages to 20 indexed pages. After a year of creating unique content, I am now back in business with 200 indexed pages - good luck! :-)
