Google will warn users when its search results are substandard

Google is updating its search and will warn users when search results are poor quality.



As seen on the screenshot, the message "It looks like there aren't any great matches for your search" will display whenever Google is unable to match a search query with relevant results.

While Google is the largest search engine, there's no perfect world.

    Why use the words "substandard" and "poor quality"? Those words are not what Google is conveying to the person doing the search. So, why use those words?

      Really? All I'm seeing from that screenshot is Google suggesting the search term was inadequate.

      Don't agree with your viewpoint. It has nothing to do with content writer or quality of content. Even to my surprise I have seen websites doing well with useless content.. Google is not doing anything against it. Guess what matters most is traffic. If your website has good traffic, it is likely to rank and that will remain in coming years.

    The message has nothing to do with writing content. Where did you get the idea that it has anything to do with those who write content?

      If Google tells us that there are no good search results on a particular search phrase, isn´t this a good indication that there is a need for useful and helpful articles around that specific phrase? This is what I meant with my first comment.

        In my experience.. no. My past experience was the employment of 35 to 45 content writers in 6 states during the .com boom and Google was just getting its training wheels.

        Consider this.. Google maintains the largest public collection of searchable words on the internet aka databases of user submitted words and phrases.

        A user submits a word or phrase not found in the Google databases There are more than one database, BTW. In turn that means one thing to Google and Google returns the message to the user.

        What does that mean to a content writer? It means that there is no Google history of the word or phrase that a searcher used to obtain information and if there is a topic associated with the word or phrase Google would have a record of the data and would not return the message, rather Google would return information related to the word and phrase.

        More importantly there is no reason that I know of for content writers that write for profit to create content based on words and phrases that people do not search for and there are no Google search results.

    I Guess, its more or less related to keyword match instead of quality. Perhaps it is showing this message when search engine is unable to get anything matched out of the query.

    Has google not been doing this for a long time now. It seems like I always got some advice in one form or the other from google whenever my search query lacked keywords. Google is smart but a search engine can't return much if type in adjectives, verbs or a mathematical equation as shown in the picture.

    I'd MUCH rather see google place far less value on a websites authority, traffic and backlinks, and give me information pertaining to my searches. If I search for something in my very large city, I shouldn't get results on page one from other states while page 10 is filled with results in my area. Google makes it fairly difficult to gather information, or provide relevant information when popular websites are given precedence whether their topic is relevant or not.

    Google usually rolls out its new updates quarterly, and the new algorithm would let one know whether his search results are backdated or not. Google always thrives on producing new and updated results to the users; hence the invention of the new algorithm.

    Google did not use any word similar to sub-standard.
    It just means Google was not able to find relevant content for your query.
