Question about Link Exchange?

Hello,

Recently, I was approached through email by a high DA site that was asking for me to link to one of their articles because it is related.

However, i know their site well, it's ranking well, high DA, with some good backlinks and related in the same niche as I.

So i'm thinking of suggesting a link exchange, this would be my first link exchange ever.

So my question is, if I proceed forward with this, Do i risk any Google penalty with?

Thanks

I'll give you 2 answers, short and long, you make your choice.
    Short: NO

Thank you very much! You've made your point.

Then I shall charge them for a fee to add their backlinks, instead of asking for a link exchange. Seems safer!

Yes, you are likely to be at risk.

I'm convinced now, i shall never consider a link exchange.

It doesn't help you to ask questions if you are unable to understand or evaluate the answers given. You had a definitive answer - NO, there is NO risk of google penalty....and you ignored it.

Were you offered a reciprocal link? Were you offered payment for a link to the other person's site?

Yes, you are likely to be at risk.

Please explain that answer - makes no sense to me. What is your experience or knowledge to make that claim?

YOu're right, it's because before checking his comment i've read a couple of articles who all said that it's a bad practice and likely to affect my SEO badly, so seeing NO everywhere got stuck in my head x)

But thank you for pointing that out. However, despite the previous comment that said there was no risk i'd love to know if he tried it himself, as in exchanging links in the same month, can google spot that as a suspiscious change?

        1. It seems to me that you know wrong and right answers, then why bother to ask?
        2. I'm glad you have head, so my friendly advice, use it. Where does it say that someone
who is writing articles for living knows more than people who are dealing with SEO
          for the past 20+ years?
        3. Did you ask yourself why NO and NO? I don't see you bother to ask me follow up question.
        4. You find conflicting answer given to make post count virtually telling you nothing but
letting you to guess will G. or not kick your ass VERY helpful. Would you tell us why?

        Well, you have three guesses

Let me give you my third NO
Not only G wouldn't spot rat, It won't bother to look for one what you, us, I have done.
Why not, I'm glad you're asking? If it start going after 50 Billions or more links it will
fry it servers not to mention G. lately care less about backlinks.

Have I blown your mind? Good, because now you maybe start worry about real issues.

I take it back - don't do it. You cannot accept 'no problem' for an answer.

Link exchange is going to be beneficial if you, for example, have content that
would have added value if you place link to site that would complete your article
and vise-versa, other site's owner would find your article very helpful as well.

      G. would ignore that exchange but, I would take benefits of having extra traffic
totality ignoring how G. feels about that.
