Which backlink will be worth more to my site?

I have a question re backlinks from 2 different sites linking to me. And when I say 2 sites, I mean ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL (so we won't go off on tangents about relevancy, dofollow vs nofollow [though, for the sake of article, both will be dofollow], number of on-page outbound links, etc).

Site A is the NYTimes.com whose page (a relevant article) with 0 backlinks has a link to my site.

Site B is a Wordpress blog with an OK backlink profile (say, Moz DA rank of 30) whose page (an equally relevant article with the same length and depth as the NY Times') has 1000 backlinks, and this page links to my site.

Which backlink will be worth more to my site? Site A page's or Site B page's? Again, for the sake of this argument, we're assuming ALL OTHER ELEMENTS are the same besides the backlink profiles. Thanks!

Based on the information you have provided, if anyone tells you they definitely know the answer to your question, they are either lying to you or to themselves.

The answer is get them both if you can and any that are like that.

You can, however, get a clue by typing in a relevant keyword search and seeing if either article comes up relatively high in the search rankings. That should tell you which one Google thinks is more valuable.

Try to get backlinks from a high DA website and has good traffic as well. Always try to use unique websites for the purpose of guest posting. Because guest posting is much more helpful for the website keywords ranking. Always try to avoid PBN websites.

Depends. Assuming everything is equal I would guess the first scenario is more relevant.

The question wasn't which was more relevant - that is obvious. Which is more important for boosting your rankings - relevance or domain strength - is the question and one that nobody really knows the answer to.

I would prefer the first, because you can build backlinks to the NYT article yourself, and then it becomes much better due to the reputation of the domain.

If you can't have both then I should go for WordPress. Like you said ASSUMING both have the same elements which I guess includes the article length, domain authority, etc. except for the backlinks. So I will aim for that sites with more backlinks. But still, it depends on the source of those backlinks. Like they have 1000 backlinks from low-quality or spammy sites then those links are useless.

    My opinion is Site B,
But Having backlinks with high DA is not only important for your site. You have to check the relevancy of the audience who land at your site from that backlink.

If you're trying to compare reputations of both on popularity scales,
then, I'm sure G sees them both as a equal and value backlinks on

Page B sounds better. To the best of my knowledge, the general page is that the more popular, visited and valuable the site is, but also the more thematically relevant, the more valuable the link is.

My answer is Site A. Because NYTimes.com have better content and UI. So it doesn't matter how much backlinks you made.

If your site has normal content and ui is not as good as competitor. Google is not going to ranking you on top keep in mind.

First of all, I would recommend using Ahrefs DR instead. I would go with option A, because nytimes.com is a high-authority domain, with a strong backlink profile. It doesn't matter, if the page your article is on has no referring domains to it, the nytimes.com has a strong signal in itself.

So, what you're saying that SEs are smart enough to make determination
which backlinks are good, strong, helpful and compare them to bad, spammy
and "useless" and that is how the system is function. Is this your new theory?

But what about Algorithm? Why do we even need one if SEs could do that
by themselves based on what you're calling "natural" criteria?

Simply says, a backlinks which would be have more relevancy and low OBL would be beneficial for your site. A question arise here is that whether you want a quality backlink or a backlinks which only gives you a ranking boost. As per your scenario Site A has almost 0 links to it will be a quality link for you only if have a relevancy, while Site B has high OBL which means they give a link easily and has a good amount of traffic so it will definitely boost your site in shorter period of time and relevancy would be a bonus for you if it have

    Quality back-links
A quality backlink is a link that comes from a high domain authority website that is well-trusted by search engines and searchers alike.
If you want to build high-quality backlinks, then start by building links from high domain authority websites that are also relevant to your niche and trusted by searchers all over the Internet.

      Greater than what?
You do realize that you're talking about brand name "NYTimes"?
Can you give one reason why G. wouldn't trust it name and domain?

Given you have an answers, how single backlink from one site could be
greater than 1000 backlinks from equally known and highly trusted site?

Google has not imposed any sanctions. Much like you wouldn't want German results to appear in your English search requests, Germans are unlikely to want English results to appear in theirs. Many of them are unable to understand or read English, rendering your website useless to them.

Lets start with this... in this scenario the idea that "All things being equal" is just wrong, they are F A R from that. Nytimes specifically is a KNOWN "Seed Site" which means it would have a Trust Rank score of 10/10.

Some goof WP site with 1000 backlinks might only have a Trust Rank score of 1/10.

If you do not understand the significance of this, you really need to look it up.

In the end you obviously would take both. but in a one or the other scenario you take Nytimes, every time.
