Getting very disheartened...

Hey guys,

I started upon this whole internet marketing shindig about 6 weeks ago after meeting a guy who was absolutely killing it, making six figures a year.

About a month ago I made my very first site constipationremediesandcures dot com (I can't direct link as this is only my first WF post). I wrote 2 ezine articles for it, 2 go articles, 1 buzzle article. I added pages that linked to it from hugpages, squidoo, propeller, digg, delicious as well as quite a few others.

However, I'm seeing zero SERP success at all. Market Samurai tells me that I have no concrete backlinks, whilst Google Webmaster tool tells me that I have 4 (all from the aforementioned article websites). I rank #2 for "constipation remedies and cures" (a very longtail keyword), but for my main keyword "constipation remedies," I am not even in the top 100.

I've SEO optimised my page with All In One Plugin for Wordpress.

I've have no idea what to do or if I'm doing anything wrong, so give me some pointers please! At the moment my only goal is to get onto the first page of Google - but maybe I've underestimated the competition for this niche.

Cheers

I use Linkwheel strategy, you can find more information here: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...-3-months.html

    In summary:

    You need to know these:

    1. Keyword research - How to find decent searches keyword with low competition
    2. backlink and authority link - You wan to rank any page, just find good authority backlinks, like Angela backlinks or my link packet.
    3. You need a lot of articles - Writing or outsource tons of long tail keyword articles, and post it to web 2.0 properties, use the domain power of those sites to help you rank your article, and backlink to all articles!

There are much to learn from here ...

Without even checking the keyword out I would bet that "constipation remedies" is a hard on to rank for - continue to work ahrd building links until you see your site where you want it to be

yes, that is a tough keyword...try to dominate the longer keywords then work up to the shorter ones.

Good advice. Looking at Google keywords, there isn't any exact match search for [constipation remedies and cures], so pretty tough starting position, and looks to have lots of heavy competition in that area. Definately follow the advice in this thread, and as they've indicated 6 weeks is not a long time...

It takes time to get your main phrase indexed broad match unless you have little competition. You always see the 'exact' match position in the serps first..

Just keep what your doing building links and articles and it will rise in the serps..

I just checked the keyword phrase "constipation remedies" from MNF and the result is:

      search count : 12,100
      exact phrase count: 29,200
      strength of competition: 850

If you want to see this keyword phrase on Google page 1 let alone #1, it's definitely going to take more than a few weeks to happen. Personally I won't even consider ranking for this keyword phrase as there is way too much competition.

Wow.. I checked on Market Samurai and it seems like something I would have jumped on easily. I would just keep working on building backlinks and adding fresh content.

well I feel even worst, I manage to get my site ranking on the first page for pretty much all my kws - I'm getting decent traffic but no sale so far.......
Why should you feel worse? You've figured out a big part of the puzzle - the traffic, you now need to do some testing to get the conversion right

Don't give up Kimhanna, it's not that hard but does take persistence and longer than 6 weeks

    Don't give kimhannah. Don't.

    Keep persisting.

SEO is something in which you will seldom seek overnight (or over week for the matter) results.

But if you just keep going at it, and beating your competitors..you'll eventually rise above them.

Build more backlinks. Ensure your sites are optimized. Build more backlinks.

Spread the word, give it hype.

    And yes, Linkwheels DO work.

I have just checked this on Micro Niche Finder the keyword "constipation remedies" - on MNF The strength of other sites is very high so ranking will be very hard you will need to do serious amount of backlinks to get into to the top 100 - I would advise before taking on projects to invest in some kind of research tool this would help you and save money in the long run it has saved me loads...

Just gotta keep working at it. 6 weeks is nothing. It's going to take time and if you buy anything that says it's instant or overnight, get a refund.

6 weeks is nothing my friend.. Be patient, keep working on building backlinks and content. It is not your fault, the headlines keep saying overnight success but the reality is a lot different.

Don't be disheartened though, in fact it is a good thing! After all your hard work getting to number 1 on Google, you don't want some scroat to come along and bump you off overnight using some new dodgy black hat strategy now do you? If it was that easy, there would be carnage!

Thanks for all your help, guys.

I honestly thought my niche was relatively free of heavy competition (using Market Samurai and Google Keyword Tool) but perhaps I was wrong. I've fiddled around with my on page SEO to try and target a smaller, slightly less competitive keyword, so we'll see if that helps at all.

Otherwise, I'll just keep building links, but it all on the backburner and try and a find a more manageable niche for a newbie like myself

It took me a lot longer than 6 weeks before I saw *any* money from my online ventures. Like you I was targetting keywords that were too competitive (and generic). All that I can say is stick at it and start to really delve into micro niche keyword research. Learn to do the keyword research yourself, rather than relying on an entirely notional calculated value provided by automated software - it will take you longer to learn, but will also be worth more to you. And remember - this isn't a "get rich quick" business, no matter what anyone tells you. If you think anything different perhaps it'd be best if you quit right now before investing too much time and/or money.

    Good luck

Those are actually really good keywords, most of them in regards to "constipation remedy"..not extremely low competition, but doable with some effort. Just keep building links and add content.

I'm sure your friend has been working at the Internet Marketing thing for more than 6 weeks? So will you if you want to start achieving his kind of success.

My advice would be to continue with what you're doing, but also take a look at what your friend is doing to make money online. I bet he could give you a few good pointers that you won't get here.

Dont give up! You need to build up your backlinks, its not the total answer to your problem, but a big part. Go to Add URL.nu : Add your URL to free SEO friendly directories and start listing your website with each web directory, there are hundreds, it will definatly raise your Google PR ranking fast. On my first site I went from a N/A to a 2 in only a couple of months!

Most people always assume that the internet is the easiest place to make money. You site have just been around for a few weeks, it took some people many years to things right. However, you don't have to b like them.

First find about 5 less competitive keywords to start with.

    Optimize your site.

And start building back links on a regular basis using article marketing, blogging, forums, social bookmarking and submit your site to directories.

The above steps takes time and require effort.

If you have some money to throw around why not try using PPC.

If you focus on long tailed keywords it will be much easier to rank well. After you build a ton of links then you can rank well for any keywords. I've been at it for only a few months on one site and out rank over 800 million other pages for my keyword. That's stiff competition and not hard to beat. I only have 700 links for that site. It also helped to rank around 50 other keywords in the process. Just keep on trucking and you'll be happy you did.
