Questions on web 2.0 link building

Hi all - I am considering a few different web 2.0 options to add to my link building - I refuse to spend $$$$$$ to catch up on 1000's of backlinks - it's just crazy and web 2.0 links seem to be the best way to go - with a mixture of regular link building etc.

I am new to this so please go easy on me, I just have some questions

1> Firstly - I know I'm late to the party with web 2.0 - but is it still doable and safe in 2022? is it worth the risk and can it pass enough juice to give me a boost?

2> If i was to follow through with this, i was considering utilizing some of the many web2.0 lists out there and creating profile/blogs/accounts etc to gain the "hopefully" do follow link - i would check their metrics first before committing.

3> I have also been looking at scraping Tumblr accounts and requesting them for the link (Also, is this still a thing and does it still work???)

4> If I create web2.0 blogs using free WordPress and Wix - would i basically create a blog with a few different pages and link out to different pages on my main site?? or just create the WordPress blog for one link to my main site? would i need to create multiple WordPress blogs if i want multiple links for the pages of my main site?

5> I'm sure I can amass 100's even 1000's of links this way. would all this effort pay off or would it likely just get me a google penalty?

6> could I just use all these web2.0 sites to replicate the same process for my other blogs?

I know it's a lot of questions but, i am new to this and i can't spend 1000's of dollars on backlinks as it's just too many to catch up on - it's simply unrealistic. Hope you can answer these questions, love to hear your professional opinions - Thank you

Well, once again I'm back to my Golden Rule of Link Building ... If you can create a backlink, yourself, it is worthless. Backlinks of any value are editorially placed, meaning someone else made the conscious decision to link to you.

For more information, read this post - Google's Mueller Calls Web 2.0 Style Links Spammy.

Instead, do the real work and get real backlinks.

Although I do agree with this 100%, link building is a valuable aspect for increasing rank and although they are spammy its my limited understanding, that if done correctly, can still hold some power and help a site out - same as PBNs are discredited but there are many who claim they still work - FYI i have never used a pbn or web2.0s - just interested in others opinions

The only way a PBN will work is if it is TRULY a PBN. That is, you are the only member and you created all of the other websites in the network and there is no way they can be traced back to each other. Man, what a TON OF WORK! You think getting one site to rank well is tough? Try getting 20 or more to rank well enough so that they have any impact as you try to use them to rank your other site.

Can it be done? Sure, but you better have a ton of time and more than one site you plan on using it with (without leaving an obvious footprint of the same links). Need more links? Oh no, you need to create even more sites in your PBN and get them to rank well, too.

If you are joining an already existing "Private" Blog Network, it is no longer "private" and will undoubtedly be discovered by Google (you found it, didn't you?).

too many to catch up on

No need to play catch up - just start building good links and keep at it...

Thanks for the offer, that's very kind of you -However, I am pretty confident in writing well-researched and on-point articles that do rank, my main concern is how competitive many topics are, and wanted a way to level the playing field out a little.

We made a post about this but to confirm some extra knowledge:

    1) Not all backlinks are the same, even if you list and don't get deleted on Wiki, the links are no-follow which means search engines won't rank your site for being on their awesome site, it'll just look past it.

    2) The secret to SEO is buying high rank domains that are parked or are out of business that have an insane amount of relevant backlinks already: you just setup a CNAME to point that domain at your new site to drive it through the rankings higher.

    3) Do local map work https://www.warriorforum.com/search-...o-locally.html

Thanks for this - picking up on your 2nd point - i have been searching through spamzilla for sites i can pick up for cheap that are relevent with nice backlinks (most are pretty poor tbh) and include them into my main site - does this sound about right?

You mentioned CNAME to point that domain to my domain - i guess i can point it to any page on my own domain?

If you really want to go down the route of doing web 2.0's my advice would be to use a few of them as tier 2 links to power up a guest post or niche edit backlink. Wouldnt link them to your site directly and wouldnt do 1000s like you said. Maybe 5 good ones to each guest post. There are lots of ways to get powerful free backlinks - write guest posts, do outreach/form connections with other web owners, look at your competitors backlinksfor ideas, offer something of value in return for links. Broken link building still works v well. Think creatively and white hat. Itll future proof your project and save you time in the long run. And get your on-page seo perfect, youll need fewer links then anyway

      Thank you.

I am considering the web2.0 route - and combining it with other efforts (thanks for some of your suggestions)

I never thought about powering up a guest post, i shall try this.

I just feel (i am probably wrong) that if done correctly and not abused while using a tiered structure -- diversified with other links (perhaps forum, guest posts, ones you mentioned) should add some nice juice while not raising too much suspicion from the google algo -- am i way off the mark?

Web 2.0 links are weak AF. You would need thousands of them to move the needle for anything that is at least mildly competitive. Unless you are doing it in an automated way, which increases the risk, they are not worth the time or effort.

The time would be better spent doing outreach and/or buying links like everyone else. Links are about strength, relevance, and quality. They are not about numbers. You don't need to "catch up" to your competitors to compete.

I guess web 2.0 is dying out and you wont be able to reap the maximum considering the efforts you put in.

web 2.0's don't work in 2022 lol. If you can create the backlink, do you really think google would put value in it?
