I have a huge website with 15 years of content, mostly news about my niche. The problem with news is that it obviously get outdated quickly. Considering that, should I remove the old news, stuff from years ago? Does it harm my SEO to delete them, or to let them online?

No traffic at all. It's just old and outdated news with no value.

    Here's 2 options .

    1 update the dated content

2 Repurpose the content after you perform a over haul .

Use it to link to pages you want to rank. Look up Clay Bruce's silos for seo.

Personally I would keep it because having a larger site builds authority.

If you have in bound links with the old news and traffic are also coming from them then if you remove or delete them, that will definitely affect ranking and traffic ..

Traffic is somewhat irrelevant. Of course, if it is for something that nobody searches for, it is understandable why there is no traffic and in that case, traffic is relevant and I'd completely remove the old articles.

If people are searching for the article's subject matter,.but you get no clicks and it ranks fairly well, that's another story. In that case, re-direct it to a newer article on the same subject or update the content.

If it talks about stuff that you now have an updated article about, 301-redirect them to the new URL. If not, you may consider refreshing the article with more up to date information. Otherwise, I'd just delete them.

If I just delete it, even if it's now irrelevant links, does it negatively impact my SEO, for removing links?

Not sure what you are trying to convey here.

        It's pretty basic ...

First, are people even searching for the type of information in the old articles? If not, dump them. Who cares if you rank for something nobody cares about?

If people ARE searching for information about the subject matter but you aren't getting traffic because you no longer rank well because your articles are so outdated, you need to re-direct those pages to updated pages or re-write them if there is not an updated page to link to on your site.

You need to remember that Google does not rank websites. Google ranks individual web pages for any given query and tries to deliver the best result. Your SEO can't be hurt by deleting pages nobody cares about.

I'm sure there are a few unique ways you could repurpose that content just got to sit down and get creative with it.

Maybe a timeline of change or compilation top stories/incidents to learn from.
