My first solo post and i feel humbled by the many top talents here and in many ways reserved to even make a post but i hope it helps some from what i have learned and if it gives back a little from what i have taken from this forum then all is good.

I often see people post should i get a .com .net .info or other variation to a domain name, and i do not want to re cover that ground here other to say a 3 letter option is your better choice based on maths

I have posted this in the adwords section because if people reverse engineer or at least think about the adwords promotion before deciding on a name then it all works better in the end. Like many i also started with alphabet long names as well, not really understanding what i was doing.

After working away at this i applied maths to the name selection process / adwords length rules and come up with this

www. = 4 letters
url = 13 letters
.com = 4 letters
/ slash = 1 letter
sub domain = 13 letters

the 13 letters or bakers dozen as i call it to keep the method fresh in my minds eye, and in basic terms i now try and keep my name to and as near to 13 as possible, and there is no real stress if its slightly under or over.

To now take this further and understanding G allows a 35 character display length you now have this outcome as part one.

www.mywebsitename.com

what happens here and where most people get it wrong is you can add any / sub domain you like to you display url.

as such you leave the half balance (13 letters) to fit your keyword into for example

www.mywebsitename.com/mykeywordhere

or

www.mykeywordhere.mywebsitename.com

what this does especially if your domain name is also makes for a bold name when searched by keyword for example

www.mywebsitename.com/mykeywordhere

the thinking behind this is the more you can light up your ad by matching the keyword is like adding lights to Christmas tree, the brighter your ad the higher the ctr, the lower the cost = better returns and profits and will if done right help run a 10 / 10 quality score.

This part in a small way is why a longer than 3 letter domain ext such as .info or adding things like hyphens can loose you ground as each time you add another letter or hyphen you take away the opportunity for another bold-ed spot in your display url. and is where the 13 / 13 (Bakers Dozen) fills the display area and gives the optimum performance level

And in a tight tough environment you can make every opportunity count.

More so if you want ensure that lights all the way up add a dynamic to the display url like this

www.mywebsitename.com/{KeyWord:mykeywordhere}

how do i know all of this works ?

wishing you well with your next website name and future business

    So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.
