Hello,

After my first day of reading posts I am learning a LOT about setting up and marketing web sites - blogs/sales pages, etc.

I do have a few questions that I found hard to find using the search function.

1. What is RSS

2. Any tips for backlinking that would maybe help me be more efficient? and what does the PR1-5 mean when ppl here are mentioning backlinks.

thanks

Michael

Sorry but that's really old advice.

Not only do most website owners ignore emails like this (they sound desperate), but the search engines have been cracking down on the value of reciprocal links for a long time.

It's just not worth your time.

Write a few interesting articles and drip feed some press releases and you'll make a much bigger difference.

      nothing to see here.

Sending out emails that solicits links is not that effective anymore unless you personally know the website owners.

The most common and effective way of getting backlinks is through article marketing.

Getting your article posted on different blogs with your links on it is one sure way to get back links.

Some good advise here and I am going to try rss feeds on my blogs which I have not done before. I do have some on my websites though and they seem to work quite well with keeping fresh and up to date info/articles showing on my sites for my visitors.

most blogs already have feeds already implemented in the design, all you need to do is add more ping sites to the list

      Great tips guys/gals! Thanks.

      One more question:

Is backlinking important for sales page type websites? I want to drive more traffic to my sales page and increase its search engine power.

      thanks

base your keywords on your niche, you can use google keyword tool to know the keyword information, such as monthly clicks, competitors rates etc.

They may have added them to the meta tags of the page. But you can use any keywords you want but you must research them first using either the google keyword tool or a tool like market samurai (the keyword module is free).

Targeted keywords are what is typed within the likes of google search and the sites listed in order are the ranked organic sites for those keywords. You are aiming to have buyers type in 'your keywords' and have you website listing in the top organic search results.

ive never built a website before - so how do you get your website to be associated with certain keywords.

Eg - for a wordpress site, will it ask you which keywords you want to tag your site with?

you create link backs with the keywords as anchor text..

ie if you have a nintendo wii games site you would create link back as follows with the keywords 'nintendo wii games for sale':

                <a href="http://yoursiteurl1234.com">Nintendo Wii Games For Sale</a>

                this would show up as:

                Nintendo Wii Games For Sale

which would be a clickable link.. you may have the link in the footer of an article bio.. you then socially bookmark the article url somewhere like propeller and digg and this gets indexed.. you now have a link back based on the keywords phrase 'nintendo wii games for sale'

You go and get lots of link backs for that phrase and when people type that phrase in google you site comes up in the list..

Oh, so it doesnt have anything really to do with your own site set up, the keywords that your website will be associated with in search engines is based mainly on the back links you create on other websites (blogs, ezines, etc) and that social bookmarking thing.

                  Is that correct?

mostly yeah.. but what you should also do is create some keyword targeted articles with the keywords in the title and blog post text...

then you send links to the 'inner' post page and this gets an indented listing in google with enough links.. never just send links to your main blog domain..

What I do is create a keyword targeted blog.. get keyword phrase in the blog title if possible without it sounding strange.. ie..

if I have a main keyword phrase 'nintendo wii games' and long tail phrase of cheap nintendo games for wii'. I would probably call the blog 'The Best Nintendo Wii Games Blog' or 'Nintendo Wii Games Reviews'.

the create an initial blog article of 'Finding the Best Nintendo Wii Games Ever' or something similar

And start off with the keyword phrase... ie..

I was thinking today of the cheapest way to find the Best Nintendo Wii games? and I came up with blah blah blah...

if you get what I mean..

                    - publish to your blog
                    - bookmark with digg and propeller
                    - get some profile links etc to the post page url with the anchor text 'Best Nintendo Wii games'
                    - create a few web 2.0 sites and link them back with keyword anchor text (a mix of long tail and main) ie.. squidoo / hubpages / zimbio
                    - create a few articles on ezine / article base etc with anchor text links in the bio field and socially bookmark everything and submit every rss feed.
