Can you imagine a world where SEO is completely automated and human intervention is no longer needed? What are the potential benefits and drawbacks?

That seems like a low bar to set for use of A.I. After 20 years we KNOW that the moment a 'method' to 'improve rankings' or 'automate ratings' becomes popular.....search engines change the requirements.

A.I. can create your content - but it will read like 'AI content' unless YOU have the writing skills to adjust it to 'human sounding' content.

I heard someone recently praising A.I. - the claim was that A.I. could build your website, brand your product, create all of your content, answer customer questions.......and that you can even use A.I. to post responses to the content you had A.I. create for you.

One thing A.I. will NOT be:

A customer....a buyer.....a real person appreciating and using your product.

Edit: Oops, meant to include this:

Seems to me the huge value in A.I. when it comes to SEO is the ability to quickly and thoroughly analyze where you are and where you are going and perhaps where you SHOULD be going. It could also help with 'tweaking and testing' as it might be able to predict the outcome of changes more accurately than we can.

AI will destroy SEO as we currently know it

    Seriously

    How?

The "ChatGPT" style of providing search answers will CHANGE CONSUMERS' EXPECTATIONS about what a SEARCH RESULT SHOULD LOOK LIKE

Currently, when you enter a keyword into Google, you get a list of links you can click through

The idea is that the FULL ANSWER can be found clicking through the "answers" individually

    ChatGPT just gives ONE ANSWER....

Users assume that this is the FULL ANSWER

Pretty soon, they expect ALL SEARCH RESULTS to produce *THE* ANSWER

Google will then produce ONE ANSWER instead of a set of links...

Sure, the viewer can click a link or icon to see the "sources" but who has time for that?

THIS CHANGE in user expectations is the REAL GAME CHANGE IN SEO since it DESTROYS THE INCENTIVES OF PUBLISHERS to supply info

Nahh man !! That is not happening. People may seem that they are fine with 'THE Answer'. But I have seen and been to myriad situations where it doesn't satisfy the thrust. So, even G is filled with garbage amazon products they still go and search for them. People like to see options for anything and everything. If people want to learn about linux commands then sure I will go to ChatGPT because those are constants. But anything else will have to be the search engines.

    • This, I think, is exactly true: SEO and even web browsing/search engines are swiftly changing, mostly in response to AI and to combat spam.

Sorry, but this is all pretty silly. A.I. is going to regurgitate stuff it has seen elsewhere with no regard to the accuracy or credibility of its sources.

A.I. WILL NOT be able to put "itself" in ALL customers' shoes, determining every possible question a customer may have and not only answering the full myriad, but presenting it in a concise, logical way, creating tables when needed, graphs at other times, infographics in other instances, creating tabs for logical separation and placing the correct content in those tabs.

I have said it hundreds of times to people who have subscribed to our eCommerce courses and I'll say it again here ... the ONLY way to build the best web page for ANYTHING is to answer every possible question every possible person may have. If you do that, there is no reason for people to continue searching (and most likely landing on your competitors' websites as they search further).

The day that A.I. can accomplish that is the day that it takes over the world. Fortunately, it takes real thought to put yourself in the shoes of every type of customer, considering why they may purchase something and the various problems a product may solve for all sorts of different people and different reasons. Sorry, but a "robot" relying on generic information is never going to be able to do that!

"What does this have to do with SEO?", you might ask. SEO is no longer just about keywords and backlinks. It has become far more sophisticated and user experience plays a major role these days. Only YOU can create the ultimate user experience. Relying on A.I. for user experience is a surefire path to failure, at least for the "user experience" parts of Google's algorithm.

Unfortunately, as we've seen with the popularity of ChatGPT, people readily trade accuracy (and ultimately, value) for convenience.

I agree with you though, when it comes to quality, we're still YEARS away from totally accurate (and NONHALLUCINATORY) SINGLE ANSWER responses from AI chat systems.

Still, it's obvious that the INCENTIVES are there (ie., gobs of VC funding and huge companies like Microsoft going gung ho on AI) to make the leap above happen sooner rather than later.

-->Benefits could be that it will increase the work efficiency and will reduce the human errors.
-->Drawback can be that it may involve a risk of algorithm biases, understanding the user intents and may raise ethical concerns.

At the end I would say human expertise in content creation, strategy or ethical SEO practices, it can't be matched by AI.

It's not possible to automate everything in SEO, there are several things that you have to do on your own.
AI can write content for you and audit your website (as there are plenty of tools for this already) but you need to make the fixes yourself.
There are many other things that you can't do with AI, human interaction is required.

If AI automated everything for SEO, it could make things more efficient by handling tasks like content creation and keyword research. However, a balance with human input is essential for creativity and adapting to changes in search algorithms.

The ideal scenario is a collaboration between AI automation and human expertise for optimal results in SEO.

Automation of SEO could improve accuracy, efficiency, and the best use of available resources. However, I do not believe that one should rely solely on it.

One thing depends on the chatgpt is not sounding good. You made changes in the content and while you use AI content for posts or any blog. It looks good to viewers and they understand this content and also analysze that content is written by human not AI generated content. so while they read feel good and understand in a better way.

Artificial intelligence can automate only content and some components such as meta tags, not all. But there are only 10 positions on the Google search results page, whose sites should occupy them? In any case, the decisive action that distinguishes your site from others should be done only by you.
