Now that forums are losing ground to things like social media groups. I'm wondering what strategies and tactics will help me maximize the value of my own online community for the search engines because they are not directly attached to the website.

Obviously, I know communities aren't just about search engine optimization, and there's bound to be some overflow between the interaction of the community and my e-commerce site.

However, I'm wondering what approaches you guys can recommend to maximize the search engine optimization value from the content created by a community

Community engagement is going to be a determining factor .You might want to encourage your community to invite others in your group as well .

Try repurposing some of your content as well. Tweeting and status updates is another good way to extend your reach and also redirect your content in front of a larger audience .

I would argue that Social is a net zero in terms of SEO potential iin most cases.

The connection between social and say your website were much clearer when Google tracked "Author" . This variable still exists with in Scheme Mark-up. By using your "Author" name from your website across your Social Media accounts helps make that bridge. By using your company or Brand name does the same.

The other "option" I would say more so a requirement is to ensure your web address is with in your Social bio.

I believe the real power of social as it relates to your website is the ability to have meaningful conversation ( you know, be social ) and that will draw traffic ( because your website is within your BIO )

Not so much SEO as it is Social Platform Optimization.

As savidge4 iterated, you're really not going to get any SEO value from social networks - just like forums are worthless for SEO.

That does not mean that either are entirely worthless. They are good for targeted traffic, however, if you use them correctly Both of them give you an opportunity to establish your expertise and provide information about your company and products if you first contribute to the community in a meaningful way that helps establish your expertise.

In the movie War Games, Matthew Broderick's character teaches the super-duper computer that the best way to win at the game Global Terhmonuclear War is not to play.

The same goes with SEO and social media: the best way to get ahead SEO-wise with social media is to not play the game. You will just be wasting time if you did.

Go on social media and be memorable (funny, useful, quorky, yourself, friendly, etc.). Have a link to your site in your profile so that, once people are impressed enough by your funnyness, usefulness, quorkiness, yourselfness, friendliness, etc., they can visit your site.

If you want to do SEO, do your onpage, then create one or more peices of amazing content, SEO the pants off of that content, (if you need help, study the skyscrpaer technique article(s) on Becklinko.com; silo structure for SEO on BruceClay.com).

To maximize search engine optimization mainly focus on the content that you share in the post "how it is creative and engage the audience and create a backlink. Those backlinks you create is of high domain authority and promote that content to increase the visibility of the post or blog. Indirectly you engage with the website and increase traffic and ranking both easily. One thinks you always follow Google protocols which helps to support your content and post, which is linked with your website.
