Social Bookmarking for backlinks

I'm really seeing the light lately about the importance of backlinking, and I'm taking a second look at methods I kind of just shook a stick at before. One of them is social bookmarking - I've been doing a cursory job with OneWire on every new page I put up, but nothing more than that. I'm wondering if I'm really missing the boat on a good backlinking opportunity - what do you thinK? How valuable do you consider social bookmarking, in terms of backlinks? Is it a standard part of your SEO practice? Do you use OneWire, SocialBot, etc?

I think it's pretty important, as it can bring you a lot of traffic. However, the bounce rate on social media traffic is really high... So you might be getting a lot of traffic, but not a whole lot of it sticks.

The solution is just use email capture =P get them to subscribe to your RSS feed, even. They'll both work just great and then you can keep getting them back!

It's pretty standard practice to me, I build authority for a few main sites I use. Digg, Delicious, Propeller, and Stumblepon. I've made accounts for other sites, but I use those as quick links.

I don't use any automation tools (although I should). If I could recommend one then it'd be Bookmarking Demon.

In terms of backlinks - I guess it's okay... Most (if not all) are nofollow. This doesn't mean you shouldn't try, though. It's still a great option, and you can have your links in your profiles. Therefore if you do well, get an authority bookmarking account then you get a bunch of traffic and a PR? whatever your profile is.

My Twitter account is already a PR4, and I've created a second one just to link to a different site. So, easy, free traffic and leads.

+1.. Social bookmarking is excellent for gaining backlinks, especially if the content/bookmark is popular and relative in nature.

Mixx.com backlinks show up really fast for me in Yahoo Site Explorer when I use Onlywire on my pages, usually followed a day later by Digg.

Only Stumbleupon is good for bringing some traffic. It's not constant.

The most important thing you will get from bookmarkings is the backlinks for your article and those links help your article to get indexed pretty quickly in Google. Specially links from Digg and Propeller, those are the two main SBs that I have noticed. This will help you to get indirect traffic for your sites.

I don't think all the social bookmarking sites will give a backlink. Propeller, Oynx, Folkd and Mister Wong will give you backlinks, I always submit to these one's. There are a couple others too that do give backlinks but I can't think of them at the moment.

it's another good source of gaining free links, but the catch is. Social Bookmarking sites are made to "share our interest on the web" and holds the potential of sending us huge traffic only if we are using these sites properly..

I don't see links from social bookmarking sites as an "Authority for our website".

All social bookmarking sites won't give you backlinks and you might not get any desired ranking after posting on them. Try to find out which one are do follow. Post them your blogs posting, articles and you'll see some positive results.

Social Bookmarking is great for a "surge of traffic", but is not really ideal for backlinks. You need to use it the right way and not just "submit your stuff", but also use it much like Facebook or Twitter. Just become friends with people and let them help you put your content to the "most popular" areas of the social site. That's what'll give you A LOT of traffic.

Just posting is better then not posting, but socializing is ideal.

Think of getting backlinks not directly from social bookmarking sites but from other web surfers who find interesting content on your site. If they reference it on their own pages, or even in their blogs, you get backlinks from them too. In this way, your website can gain more popularity and hopefully it ultimately increases your traffic in the long run.

I use both OnlyWire and SocialBot and I've seen good results from this combination. Each one of them accesses services the other doesn't, so basically I use them alternately every second post - one to OnlyWire, one to SocialBot etc.

To be completely honest, it's hard to tell exactly what's going on out there as a result of the social bookmarking process, be it direct traffic generation, SE boosting, PR boosting - you can't be sure because this kind of thing doesn't show up on any stats reports.

What I do know is that every time I use both these programs, I get a traffic increase, and that's enough motivation for me to keep doing it. Hey, I'm not really sure why a light comes on when I flick a switch, but I can see the two events are connected so I'm happy to keep on doing it.

Social Bookmarking is not much important in terms of backlinks. It makes more visitors visit our site. For backlinking Direct Submission is a good choice. Though it takes time to approve, they give good and permanent backlinks.

Most social BM's = NoFollow and or get lost as the site owners pile on more and more users and links to these new users ... stuff. Backlinks that get picked up by yahoo site explorer and google on social bm sites tend to get lost when the spiders go back to your backlinks and discover they've moved to a new url on the site. These links need to be re-found by spiders as they move.

I use sbm sites to merely get the spiders back to the pages where my backlinks really reside [ profiles / forums / social communities / wp blogs etc ]

Interestingly enough - Ive bookmarked via automation an absolute ton of pages - no backlinks to my sites from social bookmarking show in yahoo site explorer.

      Articles:
Articles seems viable, but I never truly understood - other than for backlink purposes, why you'd make some one elses site the primary point of interaction with you an your content - willingly.???

The prospect needs to nav to your article ... read it amongst all the zillions of other articles and other massive distractions surrounding the article, and get to the bio box and click the link text some dude at eza / go / etc... approves. Huh?

Put your best content on YOUR property. Spin or post it to others 2nd. JMHO ... lots of successful article marketers. But thats a lot of writing for 2 clickable links to your money site!!!

I write stuff - alot ... as well - I just dont subject it to EZA / Go / Articlebase etc... guidelines - all the time. I get to put how many links wherever I want, and send it out via tools and automation to blogging sites/community platforms - for both potential traffic and backlinks [ mainly backlinks - backlinks in the format and locations in the text where I want them ]

      Backlinks

Im a big fan of backlinking ... Im a big fan of speed .. I dont like seeing repetitive tasks done manually, that can be automated. Most backlink strategies take the new guy an inordinate amount of time to ...

      A. - Find viable backlink site properties [ in quantity ] on their own
      B. - Copy paste backlink html code [ I only use html anchor text backlinks
      C. - Ping / Bookmark / get indexed/crawled - the backlink page urls
      D. - Manual site registrations / email confirmations - sux :-)

      E. - Money loves speed

I saw a wso the other day that provides a tool to leave a 'link" on certain types of blogging platforms - en masse, and fast!!! I thought wow - thats a cool thing - lets peep that. Read further in ... not recommended to use it to leave Anchor Text html backlinks - they will get deleted as spam so just leave your site url in the box indicated and it will give you a backlink on these sites - as your screen name. LOL. I want google to find me under hte keywords - some Dude or some "screen name"

The whole point of backlinking is to have your anchor text in the html link!!!

There are actually quite a lot of Dofollow social bookmarking sites. To see some examples, just go to SocialMarker and filter the sites for Dofollow. Currently, 18 Dofollow sites are listed there. And that's not all of them, by far.

I don't think that social bookmarks carry a lot of weight, backlink-wise. However, they are very valuable for exposure, driving traffic (to certain types of content at least; read: linkbait) and getting the spiders to check out your pages/articles.

In other words: There's a lot of value in social bookmarking, even if the backlinks alone might not be all that powerful.

    Hi,
social book marking really helps a lot getting backlinks.when you post your own web page on a social bookmarking site, it will create one backlink.

Social bookmarking is simple, but it involves a lot of time. The links at the bottom of some RN stories are there to help our audience share our content, using 'social' websites. The difference is you have the ability to make your list public or private.

Bookmarking your site is important, as this is a great tool to generate free traffic to site. The increased online presence translates into increased online traffic.

When it comes to socialbookmarking, I do it not for traffic but for quick indexing and the backlink juice.

I get very little traffic from the social bookmarks, but I've found myself ranked much faster on the three major search engines when I perform 'good' bookmarking.

Now, these bookmarks will not keep you ranked well. This is where article marketing and the likes comes into play.
