Hi

There are SO many WP themes out there. I was wondering if any experts could recommend a theme (free) that would suit my needs.

I want to make a blog about learning a language. I have been learning a language now for 5 yrs and I thought I could use this knowledge to get a lot of free content for the site and then use the site to learn SEO and backlinking etc.

But I don't know what WP theme would suit me best.

I want to make it like a static site, not your typical blog with posts chronologically backwards showing up on the home page. The home page will be a welcome page and then it should have easy navigation along the left or right side I think.

I would like to have a page that is an intro into idioms for example and then maybe "post" idioms as and when I learn them to give regular posts to the blog. Same thing could be done for a useful vocab page which is introducing the posts I will put up of useful vocab I come across.

It should be easily navigatable like a real site.

So I would love to hear your suggestions

Thanks in advance

First at all you have to think about SEO optimization and about your competition, about quality of your offer and in the end about look of your web-page. On my experience, a lot of people looking for a good information. It doesn't meter what is the color of my site or navigation, the really important thing is what can i offering. Also you have really good navigation from wp control panel, and you can make a lot of pages, categories etc.

Yes, like what Marko.V mention, the quality of your information is more important than the theme of your site.

The theme of your site mainly deals with aesthetics, which of course, you want to make it look as user friendly and decent as possible.

But comparing to what you have to offer in terms of content - that is more important.

Most themes are okay for SEO optimization..but I do agree that the basic WP themes should not really be used as it gives a rather lacklustre attitude.

Just my opinion on the last one though!

    Thanks

I understand the content is important and I believe my content will be good but I don't like the standard navigation of WP themes. If you look at the blog in my sig you will see I have manually created TEXT widgets and separated my pages into categories. It's much easier to navigate I think because of the extra leg work I put in to the side bar navigation. Everytime I create a page I must manually add a link to that page into it's applicable category.

I would like to know if there is a WP Theme that does this automatically somehow ?

Otherwise I'm just gonna stick to my manual method but it isn't gonna be easy as I plan to make regular updates to this other language learning blog and each post or page I make will require I manually add a link to the TEXT widget so people can find it

    Thanks

OK I just wanted to say I found the widget I wanted. It's called "Category Posts" and also another one called "List Category Posts".

Category Posts allows multiple widgets, whereas List Category Posts only has 1. However the nice thing about List Category Posts is that it allows you to select ascending or descending order for posts on the list whereas Category Posts only displays post in date order backwards. I need wanted features from both but I guess I can't have my cake and eat it. At least not for free anyways

I hope others find this widget as useful as I will
