How long does it take for SE's to notice backlinks... i have distributed a large amount of back links and when i do a backlink search to my site only a few show up? Why is this? and Is there a way to speed up this process like pinging or something?

Are you searching on Yahoo or Google?

Don't do Google because they won't show them all or any for a long time.

    Use Yahoo for backlink searching.

Anywhere from a day in Yahoo to several weeks.

BTW here is a free backlink checker tool i'm giving away:

Free Link Checker - Portable PC App

You can check all the sites you have backlinks on to ensure they still have them up. This way if you bought some 1,000 link packet or submission service you can verify you do have as many links as you think you do.

If they exist, it's just a matter of waiting for Yahoo to catch up.

I agree, just do a site:yourdomain.com and click on inlinks and shows most of your backlinks

I say most because Iknow I created lots more but it not shown also.

I also agree, dont worry much about spending time tracking your backlinks but spending most time building a consistent b acklink strategies to your site

    Sorry man, I don't know.

The reason I don't know is because I try not to think about things like that. Instead focus on quality content and marketing what you got. SEO is something that you can only do so much, then you have to rely on the Search Engines to do there part. Which may or may not happen.

Nobody can answer when they will show, this is upto the search engines. Also there is no system, program, software, and etc that can track every single backlink. This is impossible as the system would have to crawl billions of sites every second of every day.

I would stick to building more backlinks and paying attention to my traffic vs wasting time trying to find and locate all those backlinks..

Yep...don't sweat it. Just find a backlinking groove that works for you and hit your system hard. Don't bother to check behind yourself much (at least not where links are concerned)...just keep truckin' toward where you want to be.

    you could try "backlinwatch"

but in all seriousness... just build the links and gauge your link building a success when your site is cemented #1 on page one of google for desired keyword

thanks for all the great replies... i agree with not focusing, but i am trying some new tactics and just wanted to see if they were paying off...
Also i guess i should let them be naturally discovered and not try to ping or anything like that.

Ive been using a pretty cool seo tool called search status tool a firefox plugin.
