For some reason I cannot find one of my blog posts anywhere in the SERPS for the keyword. However, at about page 10 the homepage of my website shows up with the keyword for the post I'm looking for just from where it is listed on the side of the homepage. Is this the Google Dance?

It's only natural.. most probably the Google dance.. no one knows the exact algorithm of Google, perhaps this dance results from the constant tweaking by engineers of this G algo..

I am also seeing something weird with google. My site is on the 5th page of google for my keyword in the SERPS, however it is ranked in the 4th position on yahoo. Why is this and does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix my position in Google. How do you know if your site has been "sandboxed"?

Google and Yahoo's search algos are different from each other.. this, basically, is the reason why you'll get different serps for a keyword in each search engine.

You don't get stable rankings on SERP. If you want to stay on top then you have to continue building links.
