Single Best Linking Strategy...

There are countless ways to get links to your sites, and we all know how all important that is for Google rankings. What are your single most effective way of getting links to your websites?

I will start off by telling mine.

Submitting to many directories, sites etc. works, but I look for the home page of high ranking blogs and comment with my links in them. If the comment gets accepted I get more than 20 links per comment sometimes. For my new website, FreeTrafficVolcano, I commented on 2-3 blogs and got 70 links to my website when I checked it just 2 days after I created the website. I think that is not too bad.

Any other effective and time savings ways to get quick and effective links?

    Thanks for sharing, that sounds very good, just think, if you took the time to make 70 comments, you could have more backlinks and sales as well.

      high pr profiles...
      blog comments..
      articles...

    Comments are ok, but more often than not they're no-follow. And yeah, we all know that Google sometimes DOES follow them anyway, but their value definitely isn't as high as far as link juice is concerned. Comments can certainly get lots of referral traffic if you pick good blogs.

    Rand at SEOMoz suggested including links in testimonials. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it's an easy way to get links from an authority site's homepage- AND it's often a DO-follow link!

    Great advise Chris. One thing about getting multiple links from 1 comment is that often those extra links are going to decrease as time goes by, if they don't disappear altogether.

      My favorite links are article links since they provide traffic and help the serps. I've been using profile links lately with good success.

    I heard high PR profile sites are a good way to do it as well. Especially to cross link all your links in these profiles.

    I try not to get too caught up in the PR game. A good article link is worth its weight in gold!!! Not only do you get a nice SEO boost from it, but you also get some nice click through traffic!

    I don't really understand how Forum posts work for links, because what happens when you change the sig? DO you lose all your links? I have hundreds of forum posts, but when I check my back links, not many of them come from forums... Anyone know how this works?

        The supplied link does not really answer his question unfortunately.

        Yes if you change the link in your signature it can effect things. I tend to just create a new account on that forum rather than change my signature.

        There are a couple of other trick you can use for forum links as well.
