Google Ranking and Traffic

Hello: This may be a real beginner's question but bear with me.

One of my site (with product name domain) showed up on page 1 of google (raked #6) out of 73,800. Which I was very happy about it.

And expected "a lot of" visitors.

No, there wasn't much increase! It has been like 2-11 visitors a day. Which is not much.

Now I wonder the relationship between google ranking and traffic. Some source claim like higher ranking=more visitors but in my case, not like that.

If anyone can point out what it is. Would appreciate a lot.

Thank you very much!

What keyword are you ranking #1 for?

If you rank #1 for the keyword "weight loss" you should see several thousand visitors a day.

But if you rank for the keyword "help I need weight loss advice please" you probably will only get 2-11 visitors.

It all depends on what keyword you are ranking for.

Did you use a keyword tool to find out how many searches your product name gets?

It may possible if your targeting keyword has not high search volume.

    Hello Ayhar,

You've probably stumbled across a keyword or phrase that has very little competition and is probably not searched for very often. Do you know how many times the search term you are ranking for is used. You can use Google's keyword tool (among others) to look into this.

It's pretty easy to rank high for keywords that nobody searches for. What you need to look for are keywords that are searched a lot, but don't have many results (perhaps less than 500,000) to start off with. Of course, they're becoming a little like Hen's teeth.

    Good luck! Lee.

You should shoot over to the Google Keyword Tool Here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Place your main keyword phrase in quotes...Like This
      "Main Keyword Phrase"
and look at the results from the recent searches.

This should give you a pretty close idea to how many searches by month are searching for the keywork. (/30 to get the daily)

....Another thing you may want to look at is how many results show up in google with your keyword phrase. just search the keyword phrase in quotes, and look at the results.

      Hope that came out right.

In addition to the tips by othe warrior members, also check your title & description ( what google is displaying). Make sure it will "lure" visitors to your site

      Thank you all warriors!

Didn't expect so many replies in such a short time.

Checked with Google keyword tool as suggested. Key word is an actual product name.

Global monthly search volume: 33,100- (means 1103 searches/day?)
Result shows up on Google for quoted keyword phrase: 23,700
      w/o quote: 73,800

My guess is Title&Description was wrong?

      Thank you again!

        @ayhar
When you used the google keyword tool did you specify phrase, exact or broad? Try exact and see if you still get 33,100. I suspect it will be far less.

Also, youssef pointed out title and description as points of improvement. I agree with that. Write a nice, compelling sentence for the description, so it shows with your url on the google search results page.

Finally, if google states that a certain keyword phrase gets X volume monthly, take that with a grain of salt. We have never seen volume close to what google claims, even when we are in the top 3 of the serps.

    Ayhar,
You need to have a broader approach. If you optimize for thousands of keyword terms on all your pages and they show up in the top then even if they generate 3-11 per day it could results in thousands of visitors per day. So create more content and dont focus on one page to pull in all the traffic because with SEO, the big sites eat up the small ones. Google want the big sites in the top with lots of resources and content so thats the way to do you SEO...

    Hope that helps...

Ayhar it all depends on how many people search for your keyword.

Install google analystics on your site and it will give you a good idea what keywords people type to get to your site.

    All the best.

The amount of Google results won't matter. They find results for everything. It's how popular your keywords are that matters.
