What worked for me and what not

Reading all those excellent threads in here, gave me a lot of ideas and some of them really helped me monetizing my websites.

So i would like to share some things that helped me and some that didn't.

Those are MY personal views and probably are not applied to everybody.

1. The N1 important for SEO is the Page Title tag. And be sure you set this correctly in the first time, since changing it will not always rank better. Also it took (in my case) from one to four months for the changes to be on google or even more.

2. The best way to enter a tight niche is (sorry guys) to copy/mimik your competition. See what Page Titles they use, what backlinks they have, and make the same if possible. Worked great for me in travel niche. When you "enter" the niche, then you can optimize better.

3. Backlinks help me a lot. All backlinks. Whatever backlinks. I added about 1 per day and i pinged them also.

4. Articles didn't worked for me, so i gave up and skiped that part.

5. Adwords helped a lot to jump-start the websites. Be sure you know what you do, and don't spend a lot of wasted money. Some reading is required before you start.

6. On Page SEO helped a lot. Image names, images alt tags, H1, H2 etc, seem to somehow pushed the websites some hundred places up. Don't be a snob about all that little stuff.

7. It seems that targeting high paying keywords even with huge competition is good. Include some of those in your pages.

8. Connect Adsense and Google Analytics accounts. You get tones of information about keywords and some really good hints of what works and what not.

9. Don't focus to one website but also don't make one each week. For me the max that i can manage is around 5 but that depends on the websites.

10. Last September i was about to shut down a website after one year of work to revamp it. My wife suggested i keep it for an other year. And around November the website started to make 2-3 euros per day after i added some hundreds of backlinks (200-300). Keep in mind that this was an old website (2004). So IT TAKES TIME to rank for something. You should wait at least a year.

11. Some forums i added, seem to bring more traffic because of posts and content. But forums need a lot of work, so be carefull.

12. The only tool that really worked for me was Market Samurai. It is not magic and you should know what you do with it, but still it helped me a lot.

I hope i gave some ideas to new people reading ...

I like your no. 10 post as I have also a website which is not ranking well for its keywords.. I'm thinking of discontinuing it hosting.. However, something keeps pushing me to just wait and wait for the site to have positive results.. You're right, we need to wait and be more patient.. Successful SEO needs time to see results..

The website i'm talking about had zero clicks and low traffic. About 100 uniques per day.

Backlinks brought traffic (around 500 per day) and also changing the ads placement brought clicks.
