So Confused With Recent EMD Hype

Ive been hearing a lot lately about exact match domains and getting the boost by using micro niche sites / google sniper sites. Another thing I've been hearing a lot about is content and having unique and relevant content being appreciated by the search engines.

I stumbled upon a keyword today where the results in google completely shocked me. In 2nd position in the serps is clearly an internet marketer, its a domain with the keyword in it. I did some research on it and I found backlinks from two main sources, articles and blog comments. The content consists of affiliate links to places like amazon and ebay of the product that is the keyword and the deep pages also have no more than two sentences on them. The only written stuff they have is 300 words about themselves that doesnt even contain the keyword or any types of synonyms.

In 6th place is the exact match .com, which has around 300 words of content that is related to the keyword and also the other pages on the site have some lengthy articles all related to the subject (above 400 words).

Both of them have a page rank of 2 and around 120 links. It makes me wonder how confusing seo really is. I checked the caffeine results and the exact match domain is in 3rd place still behind the other site though.

It might be helpful to add that the keyword gets 90,000 exact searches a month according to the google keyword tool.

Not all groups of 120 backlinks are created equal. You would have to do an analysis of stuff like domain PR, page PR, incoming links, alexa ranking, domain IP diversity, etc. to get a full idea of how strong the sites are in the backlink department.

As for unique/original content on micro niche sites, my personal experience is that it is way overrated. But, your mileage may vary.

That makes sense, I guess I would have to do a complete analysis of the backlinks. Some more information I found out is that the site in position 2 is using proshops and has just made categories from the feed. I am a little confused about how google finds the site relevant. It is similar to an ecommerce site.
