Do I need to improve my squeeze page?

Hey all,

I have been in internet marketing for about 11 months now. I am in the personal finance niche leveraging my previous skills as an former financial consultant.

My squeeze page is only converting at 4% from my google adwords campaign. I have used what I think are the proper keywords and I even said in the text to sigh-up with an email. Still blows me away that 96% of people don't want free stuff.

Is this a low number? What should it be converting at?

What are the top ways to improve a opt-in conversion rate?

Any advice would be great.

    Conversion rates vary by market and niche. What is good in one industry may be horrible in another, or vice versa. As long as it is converting, it is just a numbers game. More traffic = more money.

    Oh, and by the way, you may want to know that one of the biggest reasons that Google recently banned so many accounts is because they were sending traffic directly to a Squeeze Page. Their number one target right now is this type of page. In their TOS, they specifically call out the fact that they don't like landing pages that "collect personal information" so be aware you might lose everything.
