Hello, my name is [xxxx xxxxx], i am owner of site XYZ.
We like your site XYZ and its related to our niche.
We would like to exchange links with you - in exchange for putting a link to us on YOUR site we will be happy to put your link on ours...
That or similar is the email i was getting.

So..i i put my link to them on right away, and emailed them back "done", expecting the same in exchange.

Needless to say that several weeks passed already and i didnt see ONE link on their link-site.

I wonder how many people they emailed begging for a link exchange..and how many quality backlinks THEY got that way...

Here is the site:
FAIL <--- Google, eat this
#link #thieves

in cases where they eventually link back to you, they will add a no follow tag to it thereby making irrelevant to your site. So be on the look out

      Hi GeorgR,

That reminds me of an email I received from a website stating that my website was missing their link, and if I didn't restore their link on my website they would have to remove the link they placed to my website.

The funny thing was I had never heard of them before receiving that email. I have since received that very same message dozens of times from the same website over the past two years.

I did take a quick peek at their website and I may have considered linking to them had they been less devious in their approach. I eventually realized that it is just a deception meant to lure webmasters into reciprocating the link. I wouldn't want to feed traffic to a website that practices deception as a matter of course.

    LOL!!!

At least they had some PR....

I get requests for link exchanges to my PR 3 and 4 sites from folks with pr 0 sites.
(..."Your site would benefit greatly from a link from our site...... not to mention the MASSES of traffic that will be coming your way" ....lol.....)

Once got a request to get a link from my (very ethical and professional) massage therapy site (PR3) to an adult site with over 10.000 links and PR 0.

    It is really quite hysterical.

Now, George. If someone approaches you with an exchange, and they expect YOU to put up the link first..... something is sorta smelly, no?

Wish I had kept records of all those mails, and especially my responses...

That's what I love so much about IM. It can be sooooo funny, and also sooooo frustrating and enervating.

    Evita
