Hi
I have been reading this forum for a while and it is time that I started posting. A big thanks to everybody as i heave learned more on this forum than all the products have have read or watched.

So my question is.
I recently set up a site, 4 word main keyword, domain is 4 words exactly and is .net as .com was taken. 8k visits and 14k ("') comp. And has soc 12 ( Micro Niche Finder ).

I thought this looked good and bought the domain and set up the site. But I was to hasty and didn't not check out the competition.
Google first page looks like this
1: PR 7
2: PR 5
3: PR 4
4: PR 3
5: PR 3
6: PR 4
7: PR 4
8: PR 4
9: PR 3

The exact keyword only appears on number 9 but it is not in the h1
My question is can I ever hope to rank ?

The SOC is very low and the fact that the keyword is never used gives me hope but then is see PR and I am not so sure.

Should I continue with the niche or should I just move on ?

Can't say conclusively without seeing the details but given what you have said I would think you have a shot. Doesn't sound like the sites ranking there are especially optimized for that term. Another check you might want to do is check their backlinks.

      According to backlinkwatch

      1: PR 7 - link 2191658
      2: PR 5 - link 4160
      3: PR 4 - link 128
      4: PR 3 - link 12
      5: PR 3 - link 63
      6: PR 4 - link 290
      7: PR 4 - link 68
      8: PR 4 - link 4068
      9: PR 3 - link 40
      10: PR3 - link 80

Those links are not that bad assuming it is correct, but how much will their PR effect things ?

You should also take a look at the age of the sites in the top 10, as that also makes a difference. If you think you will be able to make decent money by being in the top 10 for this keyword, then go for it. If not there are bound to be other keywords that will be far easier to rank for and still give you decent traffic.

However, it definitely helps to have the exact match keywords in your domain name, so you have that going for you.

I would definitely put some work into it as I think you stand a decent chance of getting your site in that list. Make sure that you get the key word into the H1 tag, title tag, and build some Web 2.0 sites with links to your site.

I was just reading a thread a fellow posted that he gets all of his sites ranked in the first page of Google by building a link wheel to the site. He competes in some very competitive niches, one of them being Forex.

When you say that most of the sites do not have the key word in the title, that tells me that you have a good chance to unseat one of them.

well, if you go by backlinks, once you get to #2 you only have just over 2M more bl to get

There are other factors that can help such as on site seo and backlink quality. If the #1 placement isn't specifically targeting your term you may have a good chance.

    thank for the help.

Thing is that this was supposed to be easy and fast to rank, or that was the idea. Well I have put some time in creating links so we will see what happens. No way I am making 2 mil

I suggest trying "Traffic Travis". Google it - it is free. Download, choose "Analyze Keyword" in "SEO Analysis". It will analyze top 20 sites for you and will indicate how competitive it is to break into top 20.

Are these top level domains or inner pages? If all of these are inner pages then there shouldn't be any problem to rank well.

    Hi Vexo,

Don't worry about the PR of your competitors pages. Google doesn't rank pages based upon PR. Pages are ranked based on relevance, so all you need is a slightly higher relevance score.

Instead, look at how well your competition has optimized for your target keyword. Are they using it in all the right places? Look at their backlinks, have they used the keyword in the anchor text of all of their backlinks?

They may have optimized for other keywords and they could be vulnerable on the one you are targeting. The PR doesn't tell you any of this so it is not a useful gage of competition.

Ranking is not due to sites having PR. Sites gain PR with age, links and quality. Also, it's important to keep in mind that even though a site has 120,000 links or whatever, they may not precisely be targeting that term with anchor text, in which case you have a better shot at ranking.

I rank for all kinds of things I'm not targeting, and if somebody were to come in and precisely target that keyword, they'd outrank me even though I vastly outnumber them in links.

      Hope this helps. Cheers!

Thanks so much everybody I got a little scared when i saw the high PR's.

    @ Boris
Only number 7 ( on above image ) is top level rest are all sub. Be 7 doesnt seem to be targeted at this keyword as it is not even in H1.
