How long does it take to get indexed by Google?

A few things to consider.

Make sure in the privacy of your website it is not set to don't log with Google as lots of initial installs did this by default especially 2.8.

Secondly you will hear a lot of people talk about getting it up in one day however from my experience forcing yourself on google using different techniques may get you on quickly however you listings tend to drop away quickly.

Thirdly remember that Search engines and indeed their users are looking for content so a steady stream or new quality content will get you a strong ranking and position over time.

I like to say about a month to our customers and by posting every day for a month I can pretty well guarantee them a good flow of traffic and good rankings.

This will also translate into the other search engines that link to Google to pick you up as well.

Finally remember that Google is not the only search engine so concentrate some of your efforts on the other major ones also.

One of my sites gets about 20,000 visits a month and 30% of this is from the other engines.

There is no exact time frame to provide. However, it sounds like it should have been indexed by now. When new websites are created, Google will generally place these on a probationary period - otherwise referred to as the "Google Sandbox" the amount of time a site can spend in a sandbox varies, but your site will get indexed quicker if you are doing the following:

Manually submit your site to search engine directories
Update your site/page regularly
Do not publish duplicated content
Have a clear navigational structure
Have a sitemap
Have incoming links (this will help you out more if the site you have incoming links from is crawled often)
Make sure you are not getting incoming links from untrustworthy sources.

How are you checking if your site is indexed?

I see times varying from 41 seconds to 6 hours, 9 minutes and 12 seconds.

Why does it matter how long it takes to be indexed? Just link to a new site from an existing site and it takes as long as it takes.

Go have dinner and it will usually be indexed by the time you get back if you have a decent sized existing network of sites. If not, it will be by morning.

Why do you need to do so badly that requires a new site being indexed by Google before you can do it?

Just start building backlinks and bookmark the site and submit rss feeds... Do not worry about when you will be indexed, start building many many backlinks now..

Without any efforts other than creating post I have seen my blogs being indexed roughly in a seven day period.

I check to see if it is indexed by using a 'site:domainname.com' query in Google. As I mentioned, the site is very new and there is not a lot of content, but I have added a post every day except yesterday (was busy with Christmas and all). And the WordPress privacy option is set to allow search engine spiders to crawl the site (visible to everyone). I also have a sitemap.xml and use Google webmaster tools.

It's not that I'm worried about getting indexed. This question was out of curiosity more than anything else. At the moment I'm not worried about SEO so much as adding unique, quality content. When I feel the the site is ready to receive traffic (i.e. when I have at least 20 or so articles up) I will focus more on getting backlinks and moving up in the rankings.

My observation is that after 20 odd googlebot visits it gets indexed. This is not a rule by the way just my observation (based on my previous 3 websites). As mentioned by others just keep adding backlinks one by one and it gets done easily. To speedup the proces I normally do these 3 things

1) Write one article and submit it to EZA, goarticles.com, articlesbase.com
2) Save your website URL at delicious.com
3) Bookmark your website at Yahoo! bookmarks.

Create quality content, ping it, and socially bookmark it. I think this helps in getting indexed in few days to the max.

Use quality content. Often if you have a physical address, privacy policy, sitemap, domain name registered for a few years, all this shows google your not spammy, add new content and put your link in high value directories. Follow the google webmaster guidelines, they will find you in no time.

Increasingly, I am seeing domains that seems to be banned by Google right from the start, and there is nothing that I can do.

To my horrror, when I looked up their history, it seems that they have been registered byu somebody else before. Therefore in effect, they were dropped domains that were probably banned by Google in the first place.

I got my website indexed within next 12 hours. What i did?

Submitted articles and posts in WA and DP. To be frank enough, DP links are not crawled by Google quickly compared to WA. I have always found in my webmaster tools that links from WA are quickly uploaded in the account but as of DP it takes several days. God knows what can be the problem????

I think article submission is the best method to get indexed on google. Try to submit your article to major article directories. The 2nd is directory submission. Thanks for sharing.

It is better to get more backlinks like social bookmarks and some other quality links specially from the web pages where Google often visits. That will help you to get quicker index. Hope so...!!! so, far that worked for me.

[In between, I have noticed that there are people complaining that their webpages are not quickly indexed by Google these days - Does Google become lazy or doing any changes? ]

If you are not updating more content(posts) on your website/blog, then it will surely take time. But to get fast results, perform bookmarking of the articles on some standard bookmarking sites. If possible try to use some dofollow bookmarking sites

My experience, within a couple of hours as long as there's some content, sitemap submitted, analytics added and pinged.

Yea I am just trying to figure the same thing out. Ill watch this thread closely.
